Queen Máxima Revives Emerald Jan Taminiau Suit for U.S. Visit
Queen Máxima made emerald look restrained in Philadelphia, reviving a Jan Taminiau suit she first wore in 2017 and styling it with quiet, exacting polish.

Emerald can turn theatrical fast, but Queen Máxima wore it with the kind of restraint that makes old-money dressing look effortless. In Philadelphia, she revived a Jan Taminiau suit in luminous green, complete with a matching shawl and intricate beadwork, and kept the silhouette so controlled that the color read polished rather than flashy.
The timing gave the look real diplomatic weight. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were on a three-day working visit to the United States from April 13 to 15, with stops in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Miami. The Dutch government said the trip was meant in part to strengthen economic ties with the United States, and the couple were also scheduled to attend a Sunday evening dinner with Dutch representatives of companies and organizations in the country. That same evening, the White House hosted the Dutch royals for dinner in Washington, with Donald Trump and Melania Trump greeting them.
Máxima’s first-day outfit did more than fill a daytime agenda. It also acted as a quiet preview of evening formality, because the Jan Taminiau suit has that rare adaptability that the smartest royal wardrobes prize. She paired it in 2026 with diamond studs, black Gianvito Rossi pumps, a green-and-black Natan clutch, a large green-stone ring, and a gold-link bracelet, choices that sharpened the look without crowding it. The accessories stayed disciplined; nothing fought the suit’s saturated color or its sculpted lines.
The real story, though, is repeat wear. Máxima first wore the same design in 2017 for a meeting with the Single Supermom organization, styling it differently then with black heeled boots and a beetle brooch. The comparison is instructive: the same suit can feel modern, formal, and even fresh when the styling is edited with care. That is the old-money signal in its clearest form, not newness but control.
Máxima has long used Jan Taminiau as a diplomatic signature, returning to his work for major occasions that demand stature without excess. She wore the designer again at a March 27, 2017 state banquet for Argentine President Mauricio Macri, and at a June 4 to 5, 2025 state banquet in Prague. In her hands, repetition is not repetition at all. It is wardrobe strategy, and it is exactly why the emerald suit still looks aristocratic eight years after its debut.
