Kids of Immigrants and Nike turn Total 90 into a streetwear mule

Nike and Kids of Immigrants have stripped the Total 90 down to something sleeker, stranger and more wearable: a backless mule that looks ready for the sidewalk, not the pitch. The KOI T90 Mule takes the 2004 Total 90 III, a football performance boot with deep archive value, and recasts it through streetwear and summer ease, with ACG-style trail cues, a reconstructed heel and a removable tongue flap that snaps on and off.

That reset is what makes the shoe feel loaded rather than merely nostalgic. Nike calls the KOI T90 Mule an evolution of the Total 90 and an homage to the classic chancleta, describing it as a "people's shoe" meant to bridge work, play and lifestyle for immigrants everywhere. The mule uses a suede and patent leather upper, a cork insole built for comfort and sweat-wicking in summer, and laces for a tighter fit on the move. It is the kind of hybrid that makes sense in Los Angeles, where football references, immigrant identity and day-to-day utility often live in the same closet.

Nike has priced the pair at $120, a figure that keeps the project grounded in sneaker culture rather than pushing it into luxury-mule territory. The release is split across two colorways, with SKUs IH4422-200 and IH4422-201. Hypebeast identified them as Khaki and Velvet Brown, while Sneaker News specified the shades as Khaki/Fusion Red-Orange Horizon-University Gold and Velvet Brown/Orange Horizon-Fusion Red-University Gold. Sneaker News also says the khaki pair will be a Kids of Immigrants exclusive, while the black and Velvet Brown version will reach SNKRS and select retailers more broadly.

The launch is more than a single shoe. Nike’s drop will include a five-piece apparel capsule with a goalkeeper jersey stamped with oversized KOI graphics, a Better Together T-shirt, a triple-Swoosh football scarf and two sock options. Nike SNKRS lists the KOI T90 Mule for May 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM, and the same release window appears on Nike’s upcoming-launch page. With World Cup fever building and Nike continuing to revive Total 90 as a cultural object, Kids of Immigrants has turned a familiar boot into something warmer, flatter and far more personal.
