Kiko Kostadinov and ASICS have turned an archival oddity into a ready-to-wear sneaker with the ILARGI FF, a split-toe tabi running shoe priced at $230. GQ called it “perhaps his boldest kicks yet: the Kiko Kostadinov x Asics ILARGI FF, complete with a split toe,” and the model officially reached customers after an advance drop at Kostadinov’s London store, followed by a wider release on February 23 through the label’s flagship locations in Los Angeles and Tokyo and the brand webstore.

Under the knitted upper sits ASICS’ FlyteFoam midsole, the lightweight cushioning the brand typically uses in road and trail shoes. GQ noted, “The ILARGI FF features Asics’s signature lightweight FlyteFoam midsole... The performance-friendly base is paired with a simple, no-frills knitted upper,” while WWD observed, “With a lightweight knitted upper and a FlyteFoam-cushioned midsole, the standout detail of the Ilargi FF is its split tabi-toe construction.” Hypebeast added that a sculpted outsole “enhances traction and stability, complementing the tabi design’s unique fit,” pitching the shoe as a balance of runway statement and functional runner.

Visually the ILARGI FF keeps things minimal: a thin-soled runner silhouette rendered in two colorways, a clean all-black and a blue option with black accents. Highsnobiety reported the London shop drop occurred on February 19 before the global push on February 23, and WWD confirmed the in-store release in London offered the blue and black styles for $230. Hypebeast, GQ, and Highsnobiety all list the same retail channels: Kostadinov’s stores in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London plus the brand’s online storefront.

The ILARGI FF is pitched as both a contemporary object and a piece of ASICS history. GQ and Highsnobiety link the split-toe to ASICS’ Marathon Tabi from 1953, when the company operated as Onitsuka Co., Ltd., and Highsnobiety framed the timing as timely amid broader toe-focused footwear trends. Highsnobiety wrote, “It is an opportune moment to release toe-splitting sneakers... But ASICS isn’t merely jumping on a trend; the Japanese label was making tabi shoes before Martin Margiela was even born.”

Kostadinov and ASICS have collaborated since 2018, and this release follows runway teases that included split-toe slip-ons in the fall-winter 2025 show and other tabi experiments across seasonal presentations. GQ described Kostadinov as “one of the wildest, bravest designers working today,” a fitting verdict for a project that marries experimental silhouette work to ASICS technical DNA.

The launch also comes with a multimedia push: American artist Ryan Trecartin created a three-act film series to accompany the shoe, with Act 1, “Buckle Yup: Cue Shoes,” debuting in Los Angeles on February 23, Act 2 slated for Tokyo in April, and Act 3 for London in July. With runway lineage, FlyteFoam cushioning, and a $230 price point, the ILARGI FF stakes a clear claim at the intersection of performance and streetwear provocation.
