Sneaker Politics Reimagines Reebok Workout Plus as Wishing Ritual
Sneaker Politics’ Reebok return is capped at 504 pairs, and the water-reactive Workout Plus turns a heritage runner into a reveal piece with New Orleans weight.

Just 504 pairs gave Sneaker Politics’ Reebok return real teeth. The boutique’s Wishing Ritual turns the Workout Plus into something more theatrical than nostalgic, with a grey leather base, multicolor etched detailing and a water-reactive upper that shifts character when wet. It is Sneaker Politics’ first Reebok collaboration in nearly a decade, and that rarity gives the shoe a sharper point than a simple retro nod.
The draw here is not just the silhouette, but the proof of concept. Reebok treats the Workout Plus as a heritage classic, and the model itself traces back to the Workout Clean introduced in 1987. Sneaker Politics does not fight that lineage. Instead, it scrambles it with a surface that changes under weather, turning the upper into the kind of sneaker feature that reads as both playful and practical. In a market crowded with gray leather retros, the etched finish and water-reactive treatment give the pair a reason to exist beyond name recognition.
That idea fits the boutique’s own story. Sneaker Politics was founded by Derek Curry in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 2006, and it has grown to six locations across Louisiana and Texas. The Wishing Ritual folds that regional identity into the shoe itself: 504 pairs for New Orleans’ area code, plus a 20th anniversary mark stamped on the insole to tie the project back to the brand’s milestone year. The result feels specific to place rather than vaguely commemorative, which is exactly why it lands better than a generic anniversary release.
At $140, the pair sat in a relatively accessible lane for a limited collaboration, especially one with a novel upper treatment and a capped run. Sneaker Politics listed the release for all of its locations and online, with the web drop set for 10:00 AM ET on April 18. For a boutique that has recently linked with ASICS, Saucony, adidas and ANTA, the Wishing Ritual underscores how far its collaboration slate has moved past one-off nostalgia plays. The Workout Plus may be a familiar shape, but this version earns its keep by making the old surface feel newly alive.
