Song for the Mute reworks adidas Stan Smith into worn-in hybrids

Song for the Mute has taken adidas’s cleanest court icon and roughened it up, turning the Stan Smith and TRAXION 1000 Hiker into distressed hybrids that feel far closer to fashion than gym class. The preview landed as part of the brand’s Spring-Summer 2027 push, and the worn-in finish is the point: this is adidas classicism pushed into a tougher, more weathered lane.

The shoes surfaced during Song for the Mute’s official Paris Fashion Week runway debut on June 24 at Lycée Victor Duruy in Paris, where the label framed the collection around memory, emotional reconstruction and ghurba, the Arabic word Melvin Tanaya used to describe estrangement and homesickness. The FHCM called the show a manifesto for Spring-Summer 2027, and the presentation fit that language by making the sneakers look as if they had already lived a life before they hit the runway.

Founded in 2010 by Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty, Song for the Mute has grown to more than 90 stores worldwide and is looking to add European and U.S. stockists. That expansion gives the adidas partnership a larger stage, especially now that the collaboration stretches across both Originals and Performancewear this season. adidas US has described the project as a blend of the brand’s athletic heritage with Song for the Mute’s experimental aesthetic, and that mix is clearest when a tennis shoe like the Stan Smith is stripped of its polish and recast as something more rugged.

The collaboration has been building toward this moment for years. Song for the Mute and adidas first worked together in 2022, and by March 2025 the partnership had reached at least its fifth collection, moving from lesser-used archival silhouettes into more recognizable territory. The label also entered adidas Running on April 2, 2026 with The First Breath, a global launch built around the Supernova Rise 3 and Adi365 apparel, which made the new Stan Smith direction feel less like a one-off and more like the next step in a wider archive-to-performance strategy.

For sneaker watchers, the cue is simple: watch for familiar adidas shapes, then look for them to come back scuffed, softened and slightly off-center. The Stan Smith update is set to return in 2027, and if this preview is the template, the new luxury move is not pristine minimalism but a court shoe that looks like it has already crossed a few terrains on the way to getting dressed.
