Ultra-rare NIGO x Nike Air Force 1 sample revives early-2000s AF1 culture

A triple-white NIGO x Nike AF1 sample, limited to 50 pairs, pushes the 2001 toe box, 2GO embroidery and milky sole into collector territory.

The sneaker’s appeal lies in how little it changes and how much that restraint says. NIGO’s ultra-limited Air Force 1 Low 01 “Triple White 2GO” sample keeps the classic white-on-white formula intact, then sharpens it with a 2001-style toe box, custom “2GO” embroidery and a milky translucent sole. Only 50 pairs exist worldwide, which is exactly why the shoe lands like a relic rather than a normal release.

That scarcity gives the sample real cultural weight. NIGO and Nike only formally launched their broader Air Force 1 project on April 22, 2026, under Nike’s multi-season “Air Force 1 World Tour” framing, and the first chapter already leans deep into memory. Nike said NIGO’s first Air Force 1 style drew inspiration from LO2, the magazine column he made with Jun Takahashi in the early 1990s, then translated that reference into an enamel-leather upper and a slimmer interpretation of the 2001 AF1 shape. The color story nods to the NOWHERE shop sign, keeping the project rooted in the exact visual language that helped define Japanese streetwear in that era.

The 50-pair sample now on view at the Design Museum in London feels like a more concentrated version of that same idea. It sits inside NIGO’s first UK retrospective, NIGO: From Japan with Love, which runs from May 1 to October 4, 2026, and brings together more than 700 objects, including 600 from his personal archive. The museum has long positioned NIGO as one of the first designers to bridge streetwear and luxury fashion, and this shoe makes that bridge visible in a single object: part archival fetish, part Nike lore, part fashion-world trophy.

Nike’s own launch for the LO2 Air Force 1 and accompanying apparel collection began at the Design Museum on May 1, 2026, with additional sales set for humanmade.jp and UNDERCOVER Aoyama on May 2. But the “Triple White 2GO” sample is not the retail story. It is the teaser that tells collectors where NIGO and Nike are headed next, deeper into early-2000s AF1 mythology, with enough scarcity to keep younger readers chasing a code they never saw in real time.
