DESCENDANT gave Teva’s Hurricane XLT3 a sharper workwear edge, turning the brand’s all-terrain sandal into a tonal gray piece that feels built for subway platforms, riverbeds and long city days alike. It is the first collaboration between the two labels on the Hurricane XLT3 silhouette, and it makes a clear case for the utility sandal as something more serious than a summer afterthought.

The upgrades are practical, not decorative. Quick-drying recycled polyester straps bring a tougher, more technical hand to the upper, while Teva’s Universal Strapping System and FuseLock structure were kept in place for a secure fit. The outsole uses Spider Rubber Endure for traction, and the footbed is 5 mm thicker than the standard version, a small change that matters when a sandal is meant to carry you through hours of walking instead of just a pool deck. That extra cushioning is the difference between a fashion sandal and one with a real shot at all-day wear.

DESCENDANT’s touch is most visible in the color and branding. The sandal came in a tonal gray, almost bluish-gray palette tied to the label’s summer catalog, with a HORIZON label on the heel strap, a tonal DCDT+CETUS graphic on the side of the midsole, and Teva’s FOR PLAYGROUND EARTH slogan printed beneath the straps. The result is restrained and workwear-adjacent rather than loud, which is exactly why it works. It looks engineered, not overdesigned.

Released on April 30 for 19,800 yen in Japan, the model was sold through DESCENDANT’s flagship store, its online store, select authorized retailers and Teva’s online shop. Teva described it as a version of the latest Hurricane series, customized by DESCENDANT in tonal gray, and that framing fits the shoe’s appeal: this is a sandal for people who want function without boots, whether that means workers on their feet, travelers packing light or commuters who need grip, cushioning and breathability in one stroke.

It is not a replacement for a boot on genuinely rough job sites. But as a polished, terrain-ready alternative to sneakers and clunky trail shoes, the Hurricane XLT3 DCDT makes a strong argument for the utility sandal as everyday uniform.
