Michaels’ coastal decor looks luxe, makes an affordable summer gift for her
Michaels’ new Modern Coast line turns shell dishes and framed wall art into summer gifts that look boutique, starting at $11.99.

Michaels has found a sweet spot for summer giving: coastal decor that looks far more expensive than its craft-store price tags. The Irving, Texas retailer rolled out three summer 2026 collections on April 22, Cosmetique, Modern Coast and Hothouse, and said the lineup was designed to bring 2026’s most influential aesthetics to life without the designer price tag.
Modern Coast is the standout for hostess gifts and housewarming presents. Michaels described it as an elevated take on coastal living, built around natural textures, subtle nautical elements and a neutral palette. The collection page listed 74 items, and the best of them read less like souvenir-shop beach decor and more like something pulled from a boutique hotel lobby. Michaels is also leaning into a broader summer push on its home page, with language such as “French-inspired style,” “Paradise, delivered” and “Nautical neutrals,” which makes the whole assortment feel more curated than seasonal filler.
The easiest entry point is the 11.75-inch Blue Seashell Ceramic Trinket Dish by Ashland, priced at $11.99, down from $29.99. It is the kind of small, polished object that works for a hostess who always has keys, rings or hair clips on the counter, or for a friend who likes her nightstand to look finished. Apartment Therapy highlighted a shell catchall dish from the line as already 40 percent off, which only sharpens the value proposition: this is the rare decorative piece that can read custom without forcing a big spend.
For a new apartment, the 18.8-inch by 23.7-inch Framed Coastal Jump Wall Décor by Ashland, at $19.99 from $49.99, gives the most visual payoff for the least money. It brings in the wall-art effect of a much pricier print and suits the recipient who likes to make a rental feel immediately considered. The 20.5-inch Faux Shell Tabletop Décor by Ashland, priced at $36 from $90, is the more sculptural choice, best for the woman who styles an entry console, bookshelf or vanity with the same eye she gives to accessories.

That mix of shell forms, muted color and layered texture explains why Modern Coast fits the current coastal mood so well. The style conversation around summer 2026 has moved toward quieter, more refined references, and Michaels has translated that shift into gifts that feel intentional first and seasonal second.
