A thoughtful Mother’s Day gift did not have to come wrapped in a box this year. Krispy Kreme and Pizza Hut leaned into the kind of present that feels immediate and celebratory: something sweet or shareable that can anchor the whole day without the expense of a full restaurant outing.

The timing fit the mood. The National Retail Federation projected U.S. consumers would spend a record $38 billion on Mother’s Day, up from $34.1 billion in 2025 and above the prior record of $35.7 billion set in 2023. Wells Fargo’s Agri-Food Institute also projected the average sit-down restaurant bill at about $67, roughly 4% higher than last year’s $64. That kind of pricing makes low-effort food gifts especially appealing, particularly when the meal itself becomes the present.

Krispy Kreme’s most giftable option was its “Minis for Mom” collection, a 16-count box that ran from May 7 through Mother’s Day at participating U.S. and Canadian shops. The assortment mixed two new flavors, Mini Strawberries & Crème and Mini Heart of Gold, with Mini Original Glazed and Mini Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, giving the box enough variety to feel deliberate instead of disposable. For shoppers who wanted a more convenient grab-and-go option, select retailers including Walmart, Kroger, Publix and Stater Brothers carried an assorted 8-count, and catering bundles were available for larger family gatherings.

Pizza Hut took a different approach with a heart-shaped, medium, 1-topping pizza at participating locations. The chain said the item was limited-time and that availability varied by market and store, which meant the smartest move was to check local availability before assuming every location had it. For households that celebrate with a shared dinner, the shape did the work of the occasion: no extra planning, no plating required, just a simple centerpiece that looked intentionally festive.

Natural Grocers also added to the last-minute field with Mother’s Day deals, free gifts and festive touches from May 8 to May 10 at all 170 stores across 21 states. It was a smaller, more practical kind of celebration, aimed at mothers and maternal figures and useful for anyone trying to stretch a budget without making the day feel thin.

The best Mother’s Day value this year was not a compromise. It was the rare deal that felt like a gesture: easy to order, easy to share and just specific enough to read as a gift.
