Marc Jacobs Now Offers Custom Pet Portrait Tote Bags Online for the First Time
Marc Jacobs launched its Bark Jacobs pet portrait tote bags online for the first time, with hand-painted portraits on leather totes starting at $398.

Marc Jacobs brought its "Bark Jacobs" pet portrait program online for the first time this month, letting shoppers order a hand-painted portrait of their pet directly on one of the brand's leather tote bags without stepping into a store.
The Bark Jacobs experience, described by the brand as "officially back," invites shoppers to turn their pets into hand-painted works of art on the brand's iconic tote. The mechanic is straightforward: navigate to the Bark Jacobs landing page, select a small, medium, or large Leather Tote Bag, and check the box for customizing your purchase with a complimentary pet portrait. The service comes at no extra charge, though shoppers are limited to one pet per bag. Upload a clear photo of the animal, and add a name if desired; the name will be drawn on in loopy cursive.
Featured artists use a photo of the pet to paint a portrait directly onto select leather handbags, turning the purchase into what the brand calls "a forever-piece." The program is not limited to dogs and cats: the brand explicitly lists birds, turtles, pigs, hamsters, and horses as fair game, ending its roster with "Surprise us."
The three tote sizes carrying the custom portrait option are priced at $398 for the small, $498 for the medium, and $598 for the large. According to the brand, custom bags ship in about three weeks. Marc Jacobs also offers free shipping on orders over $50.

The feature has so far been utilized by only a handful of other high-end destinations, with Staud among them, making the move to online ordering a notable expansion of a customization format that has remained largely in-store at the luxury level. The in-store version of Bark Jacobs carries its own terms: visiting a limited-time pop-up in person unlocks access to more leather handbag options, complimentary with a qualifying $350 spend. The brand lists pop-up locations including London's Regent Street, Printemps Haussmann in Paris, and Bicester.
The in-store activations have been running since at least spring 2025. Artist Gracie Jenske was documented transforming Marc Jacobs bags during an April 2025 pop-up that was extended into May after strong demand, with store staff advising customers to call their local store for specific dates. During that activation, artists found the portraits turned out best on the tote bag or the dual bag, a newer Marc Jacobs release. Portraits documented during those sessions included dogs, cats, and a bunny, and one segment showed an artist finishing a portrait of Kota, a Great Pyrenees, adding highlights and a sparkle to his eyes.
Online pet portrait orders are available for a limited time only. For shoppers eyeing a specific occasion, the bag lands squarely in gift territory for Mother's Day or Easter, and the three-week production window makes the timeline tight but workable for either.
