Summer Fridays' Sunlit Vanilla Eau de Parfum hit Sephora shelves on March 17, marking the skincare brand's first full fine fragrance after years of building one of beauty's most devoted vanilla followings, one lip balm at a time.

The $82 fragrance is structured as a warm gourmand: bergamot opens at the top, caramel and coconut form the heart, and a base of vanilla, creamy musk, tonka bean, and amber carries the dry-down. The result, described by reviewers as evoking "melting ice cream as the sun sets," leans into nostalgia rather than novelty, which is precisely the point.

"Scent and flavor have always been at the heart of Summer Fridays," co-founders Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Ireland said in an emailed statement. "We've loved vanilla since we launched our original Lip Butter Balm in Vanilla in 2020. With many new flavors and shades over the years, it sparked a love for gourmand from our community that's stayed with us ever since." The founders described Sunlit Vanilla as "that feeling bottled... warmth, comfort, and the ease of Summer Fridays in a fragrance," and positioned it explicitly as "an elevated, sophisticated vanilla, not just a gourmand you think of wearing in the winter, but something effortlessly wearable all year round."

That ambition to stretch a typically cold-weather scent profile into something seasonless is the fragrance's most interesting editorial claim. Gourmand perfumes, anchored in sweet, food-adjacent notes, tend to skew heavy and cozy. Summer Fridays' formula, with bergamot providing citrus lift and coconut threading warmth through the heart, aims to balance that richness. At $82, it sits at a genuinely accessible entry point for fine fragrance, particularly against the $24 Lip Butter Balm that inspired it.

The launch is not Summer Fridays' first foray into scent. The brand released a limited-edition rollerball perfume oil in 2021, but Sunlit Vanilla represents a different commitment: a permanent, full-concentration eau de parfum expanding the brand into a category it had only briefly visited. Marie Claire reviewer Brooke, who tested the fragrance independently despite its already-heavy TikTok presence, wrote that it "exceeded my expectations," noting she left a visible dent in the bottle. She placed it alongside the brand's Jet Lag skincare line and her accumulated Lip Butter Balm collection as a new daily fixture. The Flushed Lip Stain, another recent Summer Fridays release, sold out on the brand's own site, a pattern that suggests Sunlit Vanilla will face similar inventory pressure as awareness builds.

For anyone who has ever been quietly hooked by the vanilla warmth of that original balm, Sunlit Vanilla is less a new discovery than a logical next step.
