St. Tammany Parish Library is putting bath bomb making right in front of teens, pairing it with soap making in a Teen Design Lab built for a quick, hands-on entry into the hobby. The workshop is part of the library’s summer teen programming tied to the “UNEARTH A STORY” Summer Reading Challenge, giving the craft a place inside a larger season of maker events.

The Teen Design Lab: Bath Bombs & Soap Making is listed on the teen calendar at two branches. The Slidell Branch, at 555 Robert Blvd. in Slidell, will host the session May 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The South Slidell Branch, at 3901 Pontchartrain Dr. in Slidell, will follow June 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The same program title appearing in both places shows the library is repeating the format rather than limiting it to a single pop-up class.

That repetition matters for beginners. Instead of a broad craft lecture, teens will spend a focused hour learning how to make their own bath products and explore design techniques that turn the project into something more than a basic recipe. Space is limited to 15 seats in the session that was highlighted for June 1, and registration is required, which keeps the workshop small enough for staff to guide teens through the process.

The event also fits neatly alongside the library’s volunteer pipeline. St. Tammany Parish Library says teen summer volunteer applications are open for the 2026 Summer Reading Volunteer Program, with applicants required to have completed 7th grade and be entering 8th through 12th grades. The program is designed to help teens gain job experience, meet new people, earn service hours, and pick up knowledge that carries into schoolwork.

For families and young makers looking for an affordable way into bath bombs, the library is offering exactly the kind of first step that makes a hobby feel reachable. In a 60-minute slot at a neighborhood branch, the bath-bomb project becomes a beginner-friendly entry point, with a small group, clear instruction, and something finished to take home when the timer runs out.
