Columbus Bonsai Society Hosts Ken Huth for March Repotting, Forest Planting Workshop
Ken Huth led Columbus Bonsai Society members through forest plantings at Ohio Koi in Sunbury, with seedlings going for as little as $1.

The Columbus Bonsai Society's March meeting carried an unusually festive label: "Ohio Koi & Huth-a-Palooza." The event, held at Ohio Koi, 6015 Carters Corner Rd in Sunbury, Ohio, delivered a full day of hands-on work split into two distinct sessions, with Ken Huth of Ken's World of Bonsai in Canton, Ohio anchoring the afternoon.
The morning ran from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and put members to work repotting Ohio Koi's own bonsai collection. The club opened the session to all experience levels, making it a rare opportunity for newer practitioners to get their hands into actual repotting work alongside more seasoned members rather than watching from a demonstration table.
Huth took over at 1:00 pm for a four-hour workshop focused on forest and group plantings, running through 5:00 pm. Seedlings were available on-site priced between $1.00 and $6.00 each, and the club noted that Huth was likely to bring additional bonsai stock for sale beyond the seedlings. Attendees were asked to come prepared with their own tools, pots, wire, and soil.
Forest and group plantings sit at a different creative register than single-specimen work. Arranging multiple trees in a shared container demands attention to scale, negative space, and the visual suggestion of a landscape, skills that benefit considerably from guided, hands-on instruction rather than written instruction alone.
The Columbus Bonsai Society holds its regular meetings on the third Sunday of each month. The club's 2026 calendar also references an annual show, reflecting an active year of programming beyond the monthly meeting cycle.
