Leaker codmINTEL is reporting that Alcatraz will be removed from COD Mobile's Battle Royale playlist in the next season, with Warzone's Rebirth Island flagged as the potential replacement. For a map that has already been yanked once before under controversial circumstances, the news is landing hard on a community that never fully moved past the last removal.

Alcatraz was introduced to COD Mobile on October 15, 2020, as part of the Season 11 Anniversary update. After launching as a season-exclusive mode, it became a permanent fixture from Season 12 onward, running alongside the original Isolated BR map. Its appeal is structural: the comparatively small island layout compresses engagements, trims the match length, and forces contact faster than Isolated's sprawling terrain ever could. For players who wanted a Battle Royale hit in a condensed session, Alcatraz was the answer.

This is not the first time the map has been on the chopping block. In March 2024, Activision removed both Alcatraz and the Shoot House multiplayer map days before the global launch of Warzone Mobile on March 21, 2024. The timing produced immediate suspicion that the move was designed to redirect COD Mobile's player base toward the new title. Activision pushed back through the official @PlayCODMobile account, stating: "This is not permanent, both will be returning later this year, rotating in and out each season like other playlists in the game." The company also described the removal as being done to "make room for something awesome," while separately confirming that COD Mobile had "no plans" to shut down amid community fears it was being wound down.

The irony running through the current codmINTEL report is that Rebirth Island, Alcatraz's rumored successor in the COD Mobile BR roster, is descended from the same map. Both trace their lineage to Alcatraz from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout battle royale mode (2018). Rebirth Island launched in Warzone on December 16, 2020, just two months after Alcatraz debuted in COD Mobile, with Activision studio Beenox handling the build. It was also one of Warzone Mobile's two launch maps when that game released globally on March 21, 2024, the exact same day COD Mobile lost Alcatraz. The parallel was not lost on fans at the time and will not be forgotten now.

For COD Mobile's BR community, the swap represents a genuine identity split. Alcatraz devotees have played a map they know block by block: every rooftop angle, every rotation route through the yard, every power position inside the cellblock. Rebirth Island offers a similar compact pace through its Warzone-familiar layout on the fictional Soviet island of Vozrozhdeniya, but it is a different map with a different rhythm, and that familiarity is exactly what this community stands to lose. On the other side of the split are players who have put hundreds of hours into Rebirth Island on PC and console, who know every corner of Bioweapon and Security and would welcome the map's Resurgence-style respawn loop on mobile.

Before the season flips, Alcatraz still has time on the clock. Run your close-range loadouts through the cellblocks, chase down any active BR challenges tied to the map, and archive the clips worth keeping. Once the playlist disappears, those moments exist only in your vault.

Rebirth Island is a worthy successor on paper, a Warzone staple with a genuine claim to the same compact-BR tradition. Whether COD Mobile's Alcatraz loyalists are ready to accept that trade depends entirely on how Activision handles a community it has already burned by this exact move once before.
