CDL Major II Qualifiers Week 5 Opens With Tight Series and Decisive Results
Cloud9 New York survived a five-map war against Toronto KOI while Miami Heretics swept Riyadh Falcons 3-0 on Week 5 Day 1 of the CDL Major II Qualifiers.

Cloud9 New York ground out one of the day's hardest-fought results on March 13, defeating Toronto KOI 3-2 in a back-and-forth series that went the full five maps. Miami Heretics, meanwhile, offered the sharpest contrast possible, dispatching Riyadh Falcons in a clean 3-0 sweep that underlined just how much momentum they are carrying into the final stretch of qualifying.
Toronto KOI drew first blood in the Cloud9 series, taking Scar Hardpoint 250-166 with solid rotations and consistent hill control. Cloud9 hit back immediately on Colossus Search and Destroy, winning 6-3 with strong defensive rounds to level the series at one map apiece. The third map, Exposure Overload, stayed tight throughout before Cloud9 edged it 5-4 to move within one map of the series. KOI refused to go quietly. They dominated Colossus Hardpoint 250-154, controlling the map from start to finish and forcing a decisive Game 5. On Raid Search and Destroy, Cloud9 closed it out 6-4 to claim the series.
Miami's opener against Riyadh was the day's only result that never came close to slipping away. The Scar Hardpoint was the Heretics' tightest moment, a 250-233 decision secured with key late rotations, but Miami carried that composure through the remaining maps to complete the sweep without dropping a series.
OpTic Texas also figures among the day's storylines, with CheckMate Gaming's recap noting they "demonstrated composure under pressure, winning another dramatic map-five battle," though full map-by-map details for that series were not available at time of publication.

The broader stakes sharpening all of these results: 12 CDL teams are working through a full qualifying round robin, with the top six earning direct entry to the Stage 2 Major playoffs and teams finishing seventh through tenth facing a play-in round. That major takes place March 27-29 in Marston Green, England, as part of DreamHack Birmingham. The champion walks away with $150,000 and 100 CDL points; the runner-up receives $90,000 and 75 points.
Earlier in the qualifying run, Cloud9 also defeated Paris Gentle Mates 3-2, opening that series with a 250-215 win on Blackheart Hardpoint and a 6-3 victory on Exposure Search and Destroy before the Gentle Mates leveled it with a 6-2 win on Den Overload and a 250-213 decision on Colossus Hardpoint. Cloud9 closed that one on Scar Search and Destroy, 6-3. Carolina Royal Ravens and Riyadh Falcons have also picked up results in recent action, with Carolina rallying past Boston Breach and Riyadh downing FaZe Vegas, the latter finishing with a 250-102 rout on Blackheart Hardpoint.
With the qualifiers running through March 22, every remaining series carries real seeding weight. The weekend schedule includes Toronto KOI vs. Miami Heretics and OpTic Texas vs. Los Angeles Thieves on Saturday, followed by Miami Heretics vs. Cloud9 New York and Vancouver Surge vs. OpTic Texas on Sunday, all of which will push the final standings picture into much sharper focus ahead of Birmingham.
