Travis “Neptune” McCloud was selected tournament MVP after Paris Gentle Mates rallied through the lower bracket and edged OpTic Texas 4-3 in a seven-map grand final at CDL Major 1 in Dallas. Neptune’s event totals, 409 kills, a 1.07 K/D, a 9.27 Slayer Rating and three Search and Destroy clutches, underscored why he took the hardware and changed the narrative for Paris.

The deciding map on Scar came down to tight S&D exchanges. “The two squads battled toe-to-toe in the first four Search and Destroy rounds on the deciding map of Scar, but Neptune and Sib stepped up on the defending side to hand M8 a comfortable 5-2 lead,” Dot Esports reported. Dot Esports added that “Dashy and Mercules tried to keep OpTic alive with crucial double kill and bomb plant denial in the following rounds,” while “Ghosty, however, strung up two clutch kills and went on a run to evade Dashy until time ran out, sealing the sweet championship for Paris Gentle Mates.”

Paris’ run to the title had drama before the final. OpTic Texas swept Paris 3-0 in the winners final earlier the day, posting wins of Scar Hardpoint 250-209, Scar Search and Destroy 6-0 and Exposure Overload 4-1. Rather than bow out, Paris survived a lower-bracket gauntlet, knocking out FaZe Vegas 3-2 in the lower-bracket final with map victories that included an Exposure Search and Destroy win, a Colossus Hardpoint 250-169 and a 6-5 Colossus S&D decider. Sevilla’s recap lists the Major 1 prize and points haul: Paris collected $150,000 and 100 CDL points while OpTic took $90,000 and 75 CDL points.

Broadcast and stream reaction amplified the moment for the French scene. “Gotaga, aka the French monster himself, was watching every second,” a stream noted, adding that “for years, he's been the heartbeat of the French COD scene. And when he brought the mates into the CDL, he didn't just want a spot in the league, he wanted a trophy.” Stream commentary also emphasized Neptune’s late-series heroics: “Neptune had some of the craziest clutches I've ever seen. He saved Paris's tournament run, shocking everyone in the process,” and, “With Siv putting up a massive 1.14 KD and Neptune cementing himself as an elite closer, Paris has officially arrived.”

The win is Paris’ first Major crown as the rebranded Gentle Mates and marks Neptune’s first CDL title “after five tries,” per Dot Esports. The victory reshuffles early momentum in Season 7: Paris vaults into the spotlight while OpTic, the defending CoD world champions and Esports World Cup winners, leave with runner-up points.

For players and fans, the takeaway is clear: clutch timing and map versatility still decide majors. Paris heads into Stage 2 qualifiers Feb. 13-March 22 with momentum, and eyes will turn to DreamHack Birmingham March 27-29 to see whether Neptune and his teammates can turn Major 1 magic into sustained dominance.
