Black Ops Royale arrived on March 12 with a single playlist and a clear explanation from Raven Software: Quads was the only squad size available at launch because it is the most played configuration across Warzone's existing modes.

Raven delivered the reasoning directly on X, writing: "Because this is such a fresh experience, and with many possible directions we could take, we chose to launch with a single mode based on the squad size that has proven to be the most popular across all of our other modes." The statement came one day after Season 2 Reloaded dropped for Black Ops 7 and Warzone on March 11, as players flooding into the Blackout-inspired mode immediately noticed the absence of Solo, Duo, and Trio options.

Solo players were especially vocal. The Quads-only structure requires a full four-person squad to drop into Avalon, which locked out anyone without a premade group. Raven acknowledged the pushback directly, stating: "We've heard the feedback [about Solos] and will continue the dialogue." The studio added that it wants to focus on "understanding how players feel about the core experience" before making large-scale changes to playlist options. There is currently no planned release date for a Solos playlist, and Duos and Trios appear equally absent from near-term priorities.

The mode itself strips away much of what regular Warzone players know. There are no weapon loadouts, no Gulag, and no Buy Stations in Black Ops Royale. Instead, the experience pulls heavily from Black Ops 4's Blackout, bringing back bullet drop, the armor system, the Trauma Kit, and wingsuits, which return as players soar across the Avalon map. Weapons can only be looted and upgraded in-game, and that loot-based structure also explains another launch limitation: no weapon camos. Any gun picked up in Black Ops Royale will appear without the camos players unlocked in Warzone or multiplayer, including skins purchased through store bundles. Because there are no loadouts to carry cosmetics over, camos would require an entirely different implementation, something closer to how Fortnite or Apex Legends handle automatic skin application on pickup.

The Season 2 Reloaded patch notes addressed weapon upgrade mechanics and the redeploy system in detail, but the questions around camos and squad-size options remained open until Raven answered them on X. Whether Solos arrives within weeks or gets pushed further into the season will depend on how the studio interprets the feedback it says it is actively monitoring.
