Aquila Debuts First Sailing Catamaran 50 Sail with Hybrid Propulsion
Aquila premiered the Aquila 50 Sail at the Miami International Boat Show with a 156 m2 upwind sail plan and an integrated electric-hybrid drive using twin Torqeedo Deep Blue 50i motors and an 80 kWh battery.

Aquila Catamarans staged the world premiere of its first sailing model, the Aquila 50 Sail, at the Miami International Boat Show, February 11-15, 2026, and plans to show the same model in Europe at the International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte, April 22-26; if you want a close look or to reserve delivery slots, schedule meetings with Aquila at those shows.
The 50 Sail arrives with a hybrid propulsion package specified by Aquila partners as twin Torqeedo Deep Blue 50i electric motors, an 80 kWh battery and an auxiliary diesel generator for extended range and charging. Project leader Raas said, “Our hybrid system isn’t an afterthought, it has been integrated from day one. We designed the entire propulsion architecture to ensure seamless transitions and optimal performance in every scenario.” Aquila representative Nick Harvey added, “Hybrid is an integral part of the whole project and will be available from the very first hulls. It’s the direction the market is heading, and we want to lead the way”.
On deck and below, the 50 Sail carries clear Aquila powercat DNA while adapting for sailing. The design retains the brand’s signature bar that connects the aft cockpit to the saloon, provides direct flybridge access from the foredeck with integrated steps and handrail, and includes a tender crane system. Multihulls-style fit and finish highlights are an XXL owner’s cabin, particularly luxurious bathrooms, independent access for each cabin, refined curtains, leather finishes and saloon carpeting. The flybridge helm has a central steering wheel flanked by winches with control lines led to either side, and Aquila fits a genuine interior chart table across the sailing range.
Sailing credentials include a reported upwind sail area of 156 square meters, a significant figure for a 50-foot platform and one that signals Aquila intends performance alongside liveability. Multihulls-world reported a sea trial was scheduled the week after their February 14 coverage; final underway figures and reviewer notes remain awaited.

Aquila’s move into sail builds on a company founded in 2012 when MarineMax asked Sino Eagle Group to build a boat for its Vacations charter business, a program that enlisted Lex Raas and a long-standing collaboration with J&J Design and its Seaway development arm. Plugboats lists Aquila’s factory at 27 acres 110,000 m2 and a workforce of 510, with more than 1,000 boats now on the water. J&J Design is described as a Slovenia-based studio with roughly 400 production designs for 70 builders.
Aquila has announced two further sailing models. The 44 Sail is scheduled to launch in September or October 2026. A flagship is planned for 2027, with most accounts calling it the 65 Sail and one source naming a 63 Sail, a discrepancy Aquila needs to confirm alongside final spec sheets and delivery windows. If you want priority information on pricing, hybrid performance numbers and sea-trial results, register interest with Aquila ahead of La Grande Motte and request the official 50 Sail specifications.
