Acaia used World of Coffee San Diego to push beyond scales and grinders and into the cup itself, unveiling Horizon as a post-extraction pressure modulation device aimed at changing how brewed coffee tastes after it leaves the brewer. The move mattered on a crowded specialty stage that drew more than 15,000 attendees from over 90 countries and 600-plus exhibitors, because it showed a well-known precision brand trying to shape flavor interpretation, not just extraction.

The Horizon is listed at $195 as a pre-order with an estimated first delivery from mid-April to May 2026, and Acaia says each customer is limited to one unit. The company describes it as a device that creates a controlled low-pressure environment, removes gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, and is intended to preserve delicate aromatic compounds while producing a smoother mouthfeel and more rounded acidity. Acaia also says it is built to fit a range of cup sizes and preparation styles without changing brew ratio or agitation.

That is a notable turn for a company that built its reputation on measurement and workflow. Acaia says it started developing the Pearl coffee scale in 2013, was officially founded in 2014, and launched the white Pearl at the SCAA Expo that same year, where it won Best New Product. Since then, the brand has kept widening its footprint, including the Orbit grinder, and Horizon suggests another step out from the brew bar and into sensory control.

The new device also arrived with serious competitive credibility. The Specialty Coffee Association entered Horizon in its 2026 Best New Product Awards, and the association’s entry says Swiss Barista Champion Mathieu Theis co-developed the device. The same entry says Theis used Horizon in his routine and that it helped him win decisively in semifinals and finals, a detail that will resonate with anyone tracking how competition tools migrate into everyday cafe and home use.

Acaia showed Horizon at World of Coffee San Diego alongside Slow Pour Supply at booths #1235 and #1334, with sensory, storytelling, competition, and community programming built around the launch. For a U.S. specialty market where consumption hit a 14-year high in 2025, the timing was sharp. Horizon lands in a moment when the conversation is no longer only about dialing in grind size and dose, but about what can happen to sweetness, acidity, and clarity after the coffee is already in the cup.
