Cambio Roasters, a Charleston, S.C. coffee brand on a mission to eliminate single-use plastic K-Cup pods, has been named to Fast Company's prestigious list of the World's Most Innovative Companies of 2026. The recognition lands at a moment when the single-serve coffee market, long dominated by plastic waste, is facing pressure to evolve.

Cambio ranked No. 4 in the Consumer and Household Goods category, featured alongside HOTO, Unilever, Tide, and L'Oréal. The placement puts a coffee startup in the same breath as some of the most well-resourced consumer goods companies on the planet.

Known for delivering "Great Taste, Less Waste," Cambio is redefining single-serve coffee with its infinitely recyclable aluminum pods offered at the same price as other premium brands. The material choice is not incidental: the pods use aluminum, a material that boasts a superior oxygen barrier, for both the pod and the seal.

The team behind the product knows the format from the inside. Keurig Green Mountain's former chief innovation and strategy officer Kevin Hartley leads a team of former Keurig executives who say they've rebuilt the iconic pod for the next quarter century. Led by CEO Kevin Hartley, formerly of Keurig Green Mountain, the company is setting a new standard for premium coffee.

"Being recognized as one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies is an incredible honor," said Kevin Hartley, Founder and CEO of Cambio Roasters. "For us, innovation means solving real-world problems and creating meaningful impact."

Cambio's pitch extends well beyond the pod itself. The company sources 100% organic beans, positions the product as small-batch roasted, and runs a 20% profit-sharing program it describes as "helping create a brighter future for coffee farming families." Using organic beans from the top tier of global supply and packaging them in infinitely recyclable aluminum pods, Cambio delivers exceptional taste without compromise, according to the company. On the environmental side, Fast Company's feature coverage notes the brand's industry roots and forward-thinking design as central to its recognition. The company also partnered with 4Ocean in January 2025 to help remove plastics from the oceans, and ties purchases of $40 or more to ocean cleanup contributions. A Beverage Industry award for Best Coffee Package of 2024 rounded out its packaging credentials before the Fast Company honor arrived.

To determine honorees, Fast Company's editors and writers evaluate thousands of companies driving progress across industries worldwide. Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan said: "Our list of the Most Innovative Companies is about spotlighting organizations that don't just adapt to change, they drive it. The companies we honor this year are redefining what leadership looks like in 2026, pairing bold ideas with measurable impact and turning breakthrough innovation into real-world value. They are setting the pace for their industries and offering a blueprint for what sustained innovation can achieve."

The full list of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies honorees is available at fastcompany.com and will appear on newsstands beginning March 31, 2026.
