Coffee Republic Closes Crystal City Location After Less Than a Year
Coffee Republic's Crystal City outpost, known for its neon lighting and disco ambience, served its last cup at 3130 Potomac Avenue after just under a year open.

Coffee Republic's ground-floor unit inside Azure National Landing on Potomac Avenue is dark now, its neon lighting stripped out and its disco ambience packed away. The Crystal City-area shop served its last cup of joe on Thursday, March 5, closing after less than a year in business at 3130 Potomac Avenue.
CEO Sean Flynn confirmed the closure was tied to a landlord arrangement, though he stopped short of specifics. "While we can't go into specific details regarding the private agreement reached with our previous landlord, we viewed this as the right time to transition," Flynn told ARLnow. "We are incredibly grateful for the support the Potomac Yard and National Landing communities have shown us at that location."
The location had opened in March 2025, planting Coffee Republic's flag in Arlington for the first time. By Tuesday, March 10, the interior had been largely cleared out, with only a handful of furnishings remaining alongside a printed sign pointing customers toward a forthcoming Bethesda location. The signature Calm Bean latte that became a fixture on the menu won't be found there anytime soon, but the sign suggests the brand is already eyeing its next move in the region.

Despite losing the Crystal City unit, Coffee Republic still holds three D.C.-area positions: two locations in the District and one in Rockville, Maryland. Arlington is now off the map for the chain, at least temporarily. The company told ARLnow it hopes to open another Arlington location soon, though no address, timeline, or lease details have been confirmed.
The brand's website frames its purpose as community-first: "Our mission is simple yet profound: to forge a welcoming space where coffee meets community — and where each sip comes with a smile." Whether that next welcoming space lands back in Arlington or surfaces first in Bethesda remains the open question for regulars who made 3130 Potomac Avenue part of their morning routine.
