Seven certified B Corp coffee companies from Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia Pacific have launched the B Corp Coffee Coalition, a new attempt to turn shared sustainability values into coordinated industry action. The founding group, Nomad Coffee Group, Sancoffee, ViCAFE, Bettr Coffee, Clever Coffee, Spring Valley Coffee and Cafe Imports, says the point is not another badge on the shelf but a practical structure for dealing with coffee’s biggest pressure points, from climate volatility and price swings to persistent inequities in the supply chain.

The coalition grew out of companies already comparing notes. Its materials say certified coffee B Corps had been exchanging best practices and came to the same conclusion: coffee-sector problems are systemic and interconnected, so individual company pledges are not enough. ViCAFE says the idea took shape nearly two years ago in Brazil, during a dusty, bumpy car ride between two coffee farms, which gives the launch the feel of a long build rather than a sudden branding exercise. As the coalition puts it, “The coffee industry needs more than good intentions.”

That distinction matters because the coalition is betting on structure. Its work will run through working groups focused on specific topics, with the aim of producing concrete solutions for fair working conditions and an economically and environmentally healthy cycle across the coffee value chain. If that translates into common approaches on climate adaptation, farmer livelihoods and responsible sourcing, it could do something the sector struggles with now: replace scattered sustainability language with expectations that buyers, traders, roasters and retailers can actually align around.

The B Corp umbrella gives the effort a familiar framework. B Lab says the movement began in 2006, the first 82 companies were certified the following year, and more than 10,400 businesses now carry the label. Certified B Corporations are verified against standards for social, environmental and governance performance, transparency and accountability. In coffee, that matters because the coalition is not starting from scratch; it is trying to extend an existing values system into a sector-wide operating model.

The timing is hard to ignore. coffee&climate says coffee production is being reshaped by unpredictable seasons, erratic rainfall and rising pest and disease pressure, risks faced daily by 12.4 million smallholder coffee farming families. The International Coffee Organization’s February 2025 market report was described as showing the ICO Composite Indicator Price at record monthly highs, while Verité said U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a Withhold Release Order against coffee from a Mexican farm in February 2026, the first such order in the sector. The coalition has scheduled an open Q&A for April 30, 2026, and that session will be a first test of whether this new club can move coffee sustainability from values branding to measurable industry pressure.
