Seungyeon Choi’s withdrawal immediately reshaped the 2026 CrossFit Games race in Asia, taking one of the region’s most established women out of the Far East Throwdown and the MAD Fitness Festival and opening more room for the contenders chasing Games tickets in Busan and Ciudad Real. With Semifinals serving as the final stage before the CrossFit Games, Choi’s decision removed a veteran name from two key qualifying fields at once.

Choi said she will not participate any further this year, explaining that while she always wants to present her best self, her body and mind were not ready yet. She added that she planned to take things slowly for the rest of the year and hoped to come back bright and happy again. The message did not confirm a specific injury, but it landed against the backdrop of a sharp dip in form: Choi finished 296th worldwide and 7th in Asia in the 2026 Quarterfinals, her worst result since the stage began in 2021.

That result stood out because Choi has spent years operating well above the regional cutline. Her CrossFit Games profile shows four appearances, in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025. She finished 34th in her debut, then placed 26th in 2022, before improving to 24th in 2024 and 25th in 2025. Her 2024 season was especially strong at the qualifying stages, when she ranked 110th worldwide and 2nd in Asia in Quarterfinals, then held 2nd in Asia again at Semifinals.

CrossFit’s 2026 season calendar lists the Far East Throwdown as an official Semifinal in Busan, South Korea, from April 30 to May 3, 2026, and the MAD Fitness Festival as an official Semifinal in Ciudad Real, Spain, from May 29 to 31, 2026. CrossFit’s season overview also places the individual online Semifinals from June 11 to 15. Choi had registered for both the Far East Throwdown and the MAD Fitness Festival in an effort to qualify for the Games, so stepping away now narrows the field for international contenders who were already chasing a crowded path to the final stage.

For athletes in Asia, the practical effect is simple: one proven Games finisher is gone from the bracket, and the fight for the region’s available qualifying spots just became more open.
