Bronx Brewery to close Port Morris taproom after Feb. 8, staff say
Bronx Brewery’s Port Morris taproom at 856 E. 136th Street will close after Feb. 8, a loss for the neighborhood that housed the brewery’s production, taproom and large Backyard.

The Bronx Brewery’s Port Morris taproom at 856 E. 136th Street will close after Sunday, Feb. 8, three staff members confirmed to the Bronx Times. Two of those staff members said they "found out just days in advance," and staff also said the Hudson Yards location will remain open and that the Bronx Brewery brand itself will continue.
The Port Morris site has long been presented as the brewery’s hub. The company’s site describes it this way: "Our South Bronx facility – located on 136th Street in the Port Morris neighborhood of the Bronx – houses our primary production Brewery, Taproom & Backyard spaces." The Backyard is noted on the site as "one of the largest and most unique outdoor spaces in NYC" and is kept open depending on weather from April thru November.
The closure follows a major corporate shift last October, when Bronx Brewery merged with Westchester-based Captain Lawrence Brewing Company and "ceased beer production in the South Bronx," an action the owners at that time tied to rising costs, labor and production pressures, limited foot traffic in the mostly industrial Port Morris neighborhood, and a nationwide drop in beer consumption. Bronx Brewery’s general manager and the owner of Captain Lawrence did not respond to request for comment in time for publication.
Practical details that matter to customers and community members remain available on the brewery’s website and social channels but may change with the taproom’s closure. Regular taproom hours were listed as Thursday 4:00 PM–9:00 PM, Friday 3:00 PM–10:30 PM, Saturday 12:00 PM–10:30 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM–9:00 PM, with the kitchen closing 30 minutes before taproom close. The menu historically included empanadas and Puerto Rican-inspired dishes from Empanology and artisanal pizzas from EmPie, with EmPie available only Friday-Sunday. For reservations the site lists: "Call 917-426-5706 with your name, date, time and number of people in your party." The Bronx location contact number appears as 718-402-1000 and lost-and-found or manager queries are directed to bxmanager@thebronxbrewery.com.

Social posts echoed the reporting, with a public post stating, "The South Bronx location of the Bronx Brewery will close after Sunday, Feb. 8, the Bronx Times has learned." The brewery’s online store and membership copy remain visible on the site but show temporary e-commerce limitations and other pre-closure operational details.
For the Port Morris neighborhood, the taproom’s closure removes a year-round gathering spot and a large outdoor venue that supported local food partners and events. Customers with upcoming reservations or private bookings should call 917-426-5706 or 718-402-1000 or email bxmanager@thebronxbrewery.com for guidance on refunds or relocations. Reporters and community members seeking fuller answers will be watching for an official company statement on staffing impacts, whether any Bronx-labeled brewing will continue at Captain Lawrence facilities, and the future use of the Port Morris site.
