Goonhammer Historicals Reviews Turner Miniatures Salt and Shot Kickstarter 3D-Printable Ships, Figures
Goonhammer Historicals ran a hands-on review of Turner Miniatures' Salt & Shot: Blood on the Main Kickstarter, highlighting 3D-printable 28mm ships, crew figures, and printing workflows.

Goonhammer Historicals published an in-depth review by Marc "Ilor" Renouf of Turner Miniatures' Salt & Shot: Blood on the Main, a Kickstarter campaign that brings 3D-printable 28mm ships and sailor figures to the tabletop. The review concentrates on three core packs - Ships Pack, Figures Pack, and Land Pack - and includes hands-on impressions of sample STL files and printing consideration.
Henry Turner, designer behind Turner Miniatures, is best known for sculpting in scales such as 1/600, 1/700 and 1/1200. Salt & Shot marks a clear push into 28mm skirmish gaming with a roster of ship types that includes Longboat, Piragua, Corvette, Flush-Decked Sloop, Bermuda Sloop, Classic Sloop and a Galleon that the review describes as "massive!" The campaign materials stress accessibility for hobby printers: "The ships that Turner is working on have been designed to be printed in both FDM and Resin."
The Goonhammer review used sample STL files supplied by Turner and offers practical printing guidance alongside aesthetic critique. The review echoes earlier Turner Miniatures coverage where the Goonhammer team noted a similar workflow and included the disclaimer: "Disclaimer: Thanks to Henry for providing us STLs to use for review purposes." Technical tips from prior Turner coverage carry over: "Where I simply printed a commander and open-cupola turret as separate pieces and glued them together in the example above, you could just as easily combine these pieces in your slicer software and create a new STL that is both bits together. This allows them to be printed as a single piece (which is pretty cool), and Henry has some example videos of how to do this on his Kickstarter page." Those notes matter for modelers balancing support removal, parting lines and print orientation on both FDM and resin machines.
Turner has been active with other Kickstarters, too; the designer "has just started a Kickstarter campaign for his latest project - Battleground 1940: Blitzkrieg!" The Salt & Shot rollout has also been amplified through social channels. An Instagram post from Turner Miniatures states "Salt & Shot: Blood on the Main is now LIVE on Kickstarter! Back the Campaign here" and community posts on Reddit describe it as "your one-stop pledge for 3D-printable 28mm Pirate Ships & related figures."

For players of nautical skirmish games the practical value is immediate. Salt & Shot promises a flotilla-sized offering "to use in your 28mm skirmish games" and, as the review notes, "As you can see, Turner Miniatures has a lot planned for this campaign and I'm sure this is going to slot very nicely into a lot of collections for the likes of Blood & Plunder." The design focus on FDM compatibility as well as resin broadens who can print these hulls and rigging at home.
What this means for painters and table-builders is clear: fresh, printable hulls and crew give scene-makers new options for fleet variety and conversion work. To follow the campaign, check Turner Miniatures' social posts and the Kickstarter page for pledge details, sample videos and updates from Henry Turner. Expect practical print guides and slicer tips to appear alongside unlocked content as the campaign progresses.
