Old School RuneScape Mobile Adds Character Switcher for Multi-Account Players

Jagex quietly solved one of mobile's most persistent friction points for multi-account players on April 7. With client update 237.4, Old School RuneScape mobile introduced the Mobile Character Switcher, a feature that lets anyone with multiple characters tied to their Jagex Account swap between them directly from the login screen, no credential re-entry required.

The mechanics are straightforward. Once the update is installed, players who reach the character select screen will see a new "Switch character" option listing all linked accounts. The interface displays up to 20 characters across five pages of four, each entry marked with either a silver star for free-to-play characters or a gold star for members. The client defaults to whichever character was last used on that device, shaving a few taps off every session start.

One deliberate design choice stands out: switching characters does not automatically change the world. Jagex included a specific warning to check the selected world before logging in, an acknowledgment that accidentally landing on the wrong one, whether a crowded hub world or a PvP zone meant for a different account, carries real consequences.

The feature arrives for a player base that has long managed separate characters for entirely different playstyles. Main accounts, ironman accounts, pure builds, and dedicated skilling alts each represent distinct progression paths, and hopping between them on mobile previously meant logging out fully and retyping credentials or defaulting to desktop. That barrier quietly pushed multi-account players away from mobile sessions. The Character Switcher removes it.

For streamers who switch characters mid-broadcast, the update has obvious practical value. But the broader impact lands on the everyday player who wants to pop onto an ironman for a quick skilling session or log in on an alt to help a friend clear a boss, without committing to a full desktop setup. Jagex's decision to support up to 20 characters and allow reordering through the account manager suggests the feature was built with veterans in mind: the players who have accumulated characters across years of play.

To access the switcher, update the OSRS app through the App Store or Google Play to version 237.4, then open the character select screen. If the option does not appear immediately after updating, Jagex noted the rollout may take additional time to reach all devices.
