Pixel Worlds MMO Sandbox returns to mobile with fresh reboot, new publisher
Pixel Worlds is back under Social First, but the reboot resets progression and the economy, turning a familiar sandbox into a true fresh start.

Pixel Worlds has returned to mobile under Social First after the new publisher acquired the IP rights to Pixel Worlds and Tiny Troopers from Kukouri Mobile Entertainment, following Kukouri’s exit from game-related operations. Kukouri said Pixel Worlds had not been commercially viable for some time, while Social First CEO and founder Kim Soares said many of the company’s staff had worked on Pixel Worlds earlier in their careers, making the deal an easy decision.
This is being pitched as a clean reboot, not a simple re-release. Social First scheduled Pixel Worlds to relaunch on March 31, 2026, and the store listings say progression and the in-game economy were reset to create a fairer, more stable foundation for the future. For returning players, that is the key takeaway: this is not a pick-up-where-you-left-off comeback, but a fresh start built around the same IP.

The mobile sandbox still leans on the features that made the original stand out. Pixel Worlds launched globally on iOS and Android on January 26, 2017, with a massive multiplayer social sandbox setup built around worlds made from blocks, furniture, clothing, platform levels, marketplaces, and info worlds for new players. The newer listings expand that pitch with world-building, crafting, trading, exploration, dungeon-running, and resource farming, while the older game loop still matters through weekly fishing tournaments and a gem economy tied to fish sales and gear crafting.
That mix is what makes the reboot more interesting than a nostalgia play. Social First is not just restoring a dormant app; it is trying to rebuild a living economy around a game that was designed for persistent social activity. Google Play currently lists 5 million-plus downloads, about 133,000 reviews, and a 3.9-star rating, while the App Store shows 2.4K ratings and now frames the game as returning. Social First has also said Pixel Worlds had “one of the best online communities” Kim Soares had seen in 25 years of game development.
The return also closes a turbulent stretch for the fan base. The official Pixel Worlds forum still showed late-2024 shutdown chatter, including a “last ever PW event” thread, after community materials warned the servers would shut down at the end of 2024. Social First is also developing Nexus Station as a spiritual successor, but Pixel Worlds itself is back first, and with the IP now in new hands, the relaunch reads like a second life rather than a renamed restart.
