Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Gets Free Challenge Mode Update, Mobile and Switch 2 Support
Aspyr's free Challenge Mode update for Tomb Raider I–III Remastered landed March 12 with 10 new outfits, 15 achievements, and the full trilogy's mobile debut.

Aspyr Media dropped a free content update for Tomb Raider I–III Remastered on March 12, 2026, introducing a customizable Challenge Mode alongside the collection's debut on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch 2. The patch is live now across all supported platforms, and new players can pick up the game for $14.99, half off the standard $29.99 price, for a limited time (the discount does not apply on PlayStation).
Challenge Mode sits at the heart of the update and launches directly from the Main Menu of each game in the trilogy. Aspyr describes the system as full difficulty customization: "Modify health, damage, bonuses, enemies, and more to create new challenges with endless replayability. The higher the challenge rating, the more you'll unlock!" The official promo copy frames the scope well: whether you want a gentle nature walk through the Lost Valley or a punishing grind through Natla's Mines, modifiers for weapons, enemy type, damage, and more let you rebuild any level from scratch.
Completing those challenges earns 10 new Lara Croft outfits, each carrying unique gameplay bonuses exclusive to Challenge Mode. Aspyr says each outfit lets Lara "run faster, dive deeper, and fight harder," covering 25 upgraded abilities across the full set. The two confirmed designs are the Paragon of Peace and the Atlantean Bio-Armour; outfits are accessible through the Extras menu. Fifteen new achievements round out the reward loop, all tied to completing levels under increasingly demanding conditions.
The mobile release brings the complete trilogy to Android and iOS for the first time, bundling all three expansions: the "Unfinished Business" expansion for Tomb Raider, "Golden Mask" for Tomb Raider II, and "The Lost Artifact" for Tomb Raider III. The first level of each game is free to play on both platforms. Aspyr built a new touch-optimized UI and menu navigation for the mobile version, and Photo Mode is included alongside Challenge Mode and all bonus content.

On Switch 2, the remaster runs at 1440p and 60 FPS docked, and flips to 1080p at 120 FPS in handheld mode. Players who already own the collection on the original Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no cost; according to press release details, that free upgrade is scheduled for March 18, 2026.
The patch also addressed a range of technical issues across platforms. Xbox players received a fix for button binding functionality, Steam users got Photomode improvements and classic mode level display corrections, and mobile menus were optimized alongside the newly integrated touch controls. Challenge Mode saves are now marked with a skull icon so they remain clearly distinguishable from standard saves, while otherwise behaving identically.
Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics positioned the update as part of Tomb Raider's 30th anniversary celebrations, calling it "the perfect opportunity for new and seasoned fans alike to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider this year and one of gaming's most iconic heroines." The collection, which originally launched in 2024 and earned four stars from Eurogamer, is now available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.
