Paizo's Impossible Magic adds 240 spells and four remastered classes

If your Pathfinder table has been waiting to see whether to keep leaning on current magic books or hold cash for the next Remaster hardcover, Paizo has made the decision harder to dodge. Impossible Magic arrives as a $69.99 Pathfinder 2E Remaster book on July 30, with more than 240 spells and the Magus, Necromancer, Runesmith, and Summoner folded into the new rules line.

The most important takeaway is not just the spell count. Paizo’s PaizoCon Online 2026 seminar framed the book as a broad magical expansion, not a narrow list of utility effects, and the headline total does not even cover everything in the volume. Focus spells and other magical options sit alongside the main spell tally, while the book also adds several archetypes, new arcane schools drawn from the Impossible Lands, and wondrous magical items.

That scope matters for the Remaster era because it pushes the line beyond compatibility cleanup. A book built around four remastered classes changes the conversation for players planning a new build and for GMs who need to know which side of the table is about to get a bigger toolbox. Magus and summoner fans get a clearer place in the remastered ecosystem, while necromancer and runesmith support moves from playtest curiosity into a full hardcover release.

Paizo has been laying the groundwork for that shift for more than a year. The Impossible Playtest launched on December 9, 2024 and ran eight weeks through January 31, 2025, with Organized Play support and a free Demiplane character builder. In Paizo’s February 28, 2025 debrief, Joshua Birdsong said the necromancer briefly outpaced human fighter in Demiplane character creation counts during the playtest, a strong sign that the concept landed with players. Paizo also said undead familiar options would be part of the final necromancer release.

The schedule now points to a real launch window rather than a wish list item. Paizo’s release calendar lists Impossible Magic for July 2026, and subscription listings currently place it on the rulebook schedule for July 12. For Pathfinder players and GMs tracking where Remaster magic is headed, that makes Impossible Magic the book to watch before finalizing any spell-heavy character or campaign plan.
