Goleta Opens First Dedicated Indoor Pickleball Club on Santa Barbara Coast
Goleta’s first dedicated indoor pickleball club turns the South Coast into a weather-proof retreat stop, with seven climate-controlled courts and bookable group space.

The Santa Barbara Coast just got a different kind of pickleball trip. With The Picklr Santa Barbara now open in Goleta, retreat planners finally have a year-round indoor option that can anchor a multi-day stay instead of leaving play at the mercy of wind, marine layer, or court availability.
The club opened on Saturday, May 2, at 189 N. Fairview Ave. in the Fairview Shopping Center, inside a former Bed Bath & Beyond space. More than 200 players came through the doors for the opening, and the new facility immediately gave the South Coast its first dedicated indoor pickleball home. For visitors building a weekend around court time, that matters as much as the address: the club is climate controlled, with six regular courts and one tournament court, plus a pro shop and locker rooms with showers.

That setup makes the venue more than a place to squeeze in a casual open play session. The Picklr Santa Barbara also includes an upstairs lounge, a reservable community room, and room for private events, which gives groups options for team dinners, birthday gatherings, and social hangs between matches. Free Pickleball 101 instruction is available for beginners, while more experienced players can use the indoor courts for league play, tournaments, and structured training. The opening lineup also included tier 2 founder memberships at $197 a month, with lower-priced tiers expected later.
The facility’s operating model broadens the appeal further. Earlier planning called for hours from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, and the club was built with Wingfield AI coaching systems and ERNE ball machines in mind, along with ball machines and light fitness equipment. Ted and Trish Guggenheim, who moved to Santa Barbara from Colorado in 2024, own and operate the franchise, one of more than 40 Picklr locations in the United States. For unlimited members, the network adds another layer of travel value, since they can play at any Picklr location.

The new club does not replace the outdoor scene in Goleta and Santa Barbara. The Goleta Community Center still offers four dedicated pickleball courts and one shared court, while the Municipal Tennis and Pickleball Center has 16 pickleball courts. What The Picklr changes is the retreat calendar itself: it gives visiting players a dependable indoor base, a place for group play, and a reason to plan around the South Coast without worrying whether the weather or the season will wash out the experience.
