Malaysia Open 2026 launches in Kuala Lumpur, boosts pickleball culture
More than RM70,000 in prizes and a June 12-14 start at Grand Pickleball Arena put Shah Alam in the regional pickleball spotlight.

More than RM70,000 in prizes and three days at the Grand Pickleball Arena in Shah Alam are pushing Malaysia Open 2026 into the center of the region’s pickleball calendar. The national tournament was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on April 15, with organizers using the announcement to signal that Malaysia is building something bigger than a one-off event.
The launch drew sponsors, partners, media members, and invited guests to Oriental Daily News headquarters, where V Success Group unveiled a tournament built to reach beyond the usual competitive crowd. The June 12-14 event is being framed not just as a draw for players, but as a platform for healthy living, social connection, and a stronger pickleball culture in Malaysia. With Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam now hosting back-to-back pickleball moments in 2026, the country is making a clear play for regional attention.
That momentum matters for players looking for a serious bracket and for travelers tracking where the sport is gaining real infrastructure. Competition will span junior, novice, intermediate, and open divisions, giving developing players a clear entry point while still offering a high-end path for experienced competitors. Registration is being handled through the Baseline app, and the event page places the tournament in Selangor from June 12 to 14.
The junior prizes stand out for their scale and their tourism tie-in. One reported junior men’s singles champion package includes RM600 in cash, a two-day, one-night stay at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, four three-park tickets worth RM2,380, a Gintell eye massager, plus a trophy and medal. That mix of reward, family appeal, and destination marketing suggests the tournament is trying to grow the game by making it feel bigger than the baseline and more connected to the wider Malaysia travel experience.
Malaysia’s pickleball rise has already been building. The inaugural Borneo Pickleball International Tournament in October 2024 drew more than 500 players, and Kuala Lumpur hosted the JOOLA Titans Tour 2026 on April 7-8 with Andre Agassi headlining. Against that backdrop, Malaysia Open 2026 looks less like a standalone stop and more like a marker of where the sport is headed next in Southeast Asia.
