PlayerU launches pickleball learning app on Apple and Google Play

PlayerU put a pocket-sized pickleball teacher into both major app stores, giving beginners a more structured way to learn the sport before they ever pack a paddle for a retreat, clinic or trip. The PlayerU mobile app officially launched June 9 on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, a move that makes the platform easy to grab for players who want help with rules, scoring and basic shots without sorting it out alone.

The company says the app is built for beginners and guides users step by step until they reach “Court Ready” status, which PlayerU defines as confidence with the game’s rules, scoring and core shots. That matters in a sport where many new players arrive at an open play session or destination retreat with enthusiasm but not much structure. Instead of relying entirely on a coach across the net, PlayerU is trying to put a learning path in the player’s pocket.

PlayerU also says the experience includes a “Play Buddy” and an “AI Coach,” signaling that this is meant to be interactive rather than a static library of tips. The company has tied the product closely to Kyle Yates, announcing a strategic partnership with the professional player on May 13. Launch materials describe Yates as a seven-time U.S. Open champion and Hall of Fame inductee, and say he serves as the coach answering questions and guiding players through the learning process.

The release lands at a time when pickleball instruction is spreading across more formats, from app-based learning to on-court experiences. The Verandah Antigua has a pro-led pickleball series running June 8-17, and Picklr marked a grand opening in Avon, Indiana on June 6 as its third club in the greater Indianapolis area. PlayerU is aiming at the same broad audience that fuels those events: players who want to keep improving between sessions, not just during them.

Company-linked materials say PlayerU is preparing for national expansion through club partnerships, integrated coaching programs, tournament development and strategic relationships across the industry.
