Maryland Table Tennis Center Expands to 10,000 Square Feet After Three Decades

After more than three decades as one of the United States' pioneering full-time table tennis facilities, the Maryland Table Tennis Center in Gaithersburg has completed a renovation and expansion that brings its state-of-the-art space to over 10,000 square feet.

MDTTC has been operating since 1992, making it among the first dedicated, full-time table tennis clubs to establish itself in the country. The expansion cements a trajectory that has taken the center from a regional fixture to a nationally recognized training hub. The International Table Tennis Federation has selected MDTTC as an ITTF International Training Center Hot Spot, and USATT has designated it a National Center of Excellence, two of the most significant accreditations available to a club operating in the United States.

The center's stated mission underscores that elite ambition sits alongside genuine community access: "We at MDTTC are dedicated to a mission to promote table tennis and grow and develop the best table tennis talents in the United States. We foster excellence and sportsmanship in a safe and friendly environment." That range is reflected in who shows up to play. Players from age five through competitive adults, recreational weekend warriors through national-level athletes, all share the same floor regularly.

MDTTC is open seven days a week. Weekday hours run Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, while weekend hours extend from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The longer Saturday and Sunday window draws strong attendance, and the center advises players to call ahead on weekends to confirm table availability before making the trip, as the facility frequently fills up.

With the expansion now complete, MDTTC enters its fourth decade with considerably more room to grow the game it has championed since the early years of full-time club table tennis in America.
