Vadodara Hosts 334 Players in Back-to-Back WTT Events
The Sama Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara staged the WTT Youth Contender (U11-U19) on January 2-5 and will host the WTT Feeder Series from January 7-11, bringing a combined field of 334 entrants from multiple countries to Gujarat. The events underscore Vadodara’s rising profile as a national table tennis hub and give local juniors and clubs direct access to international competition.

Vadodara moved into the national spotlight for table tennis as the Sama Indoor Sports Complex wrapped up the WTT Youth Contender (U11-U19) on January 5 and prepares to host the WTT Feeder Series beginning January 7. The Youth Contender drew 226 players from four countries, while the Feeder Series will assemble 108 players from ten countries, a combined total of 334 entrants across the two events.
Organisers and local officials framed the back-to-back hosting as evidence that Vadodara is growing into a key centre for Indian table tennis. Jayaben Thakkar, President of the Table Tennis Association of Vadodara, and MP and Vice-President Hemang Joshi were among those who highlighted the competitive and developmental value of holding consecutive WTT-sanctioned tournaments at one venue.
The Youth Contender featured multiple promising Indian juniors who have shown results on the WTT youth circuit. Among the names noted in the entry lists were Divyanshi Bhowmick and Syndrela Das, both of whom performed well at previous WTT Youth Contenders and used the event as part of their pathway into higher-level international play. For young players, matches at U11-U19 level provide ranking points, international exposure, and game-time against varied styles, all practical benefits that accelerate development.
Organisers also announced wild cards for the Feeder draw in both the men’s and women’s events, opening additional entry routes for players outside direct qualification. The Feeder Series, running January 7-11, offers a separate competitive track and will be a chance for emerging senior and transitioning junior players to earn international match experience and WTT points.
Beyond competition, the two events are set to have local impact through increased spectator interest, volunteer opportunities, and activity for nearby businesses. Clubs and coaches in the area gain a rare chance to observe international talent up close, scout opponents for their players, and benchmark training programs against overseas standards.
With the Youth Contender complete and the Feeder Series imminent, Vadodara’s staging of these tournaments provides immediate benefits to participants and a longer-term boost to the city’s credentials as a staging ground for national and international table tennis. Expect local players to return from the events with sharper match play and clubs to leverage the experience for coaching and talent development in the months ahead.
