WTT Singapore Smash 2026 Qualifiers Produce Upsets as Draw Ceremony Held
Wildcard Chloe Lai rallied from 2-0 down to beat No.12 seed Su Tsz Tung 3-2 as singles and doubles draws were released amid an "electric atmosphere" at the WTT Singapore Smash qualifiers.

Wildcard Chloe Lai staged a comeback from 2-0 down to defeat No.12 seed Su Tsz Tung 3-2 in front of a home crowd, a shock result that capped a day when "singles and doubles draws [were] released amid electric atmosphere" at the WTT Singapore Smash qualifiers.
The Singapore Smash is running as a WTT Grand Smash presented by Resorts World Sentosa, the fifth edition of the event with a total prize pool of USD 1.55 million. The tournament runs from February 19 to March 1, 2026, and the field is headlined by world No. 1 Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha in the women's draw as organisers bring top talent to the Kallang-area venue for the Grand Smash format.
Organisers and media references list the venue variously as Infinity ∞ Arena and The Kallang's OCBC Arena; session-level programming from the promoter shows Sessions 1 to 8 set for February 22 to 25 and Sessions 9 to 16 for February 26 to March 1, with the Singapore Youth Smash scheduled February 26 to March 1. WTT Fans receive complimentary entry to all qualifying draw matches from February 19 to February 21 as part of the new WTT Fans Appreciation Week.
Local interest in the main draw is high: wildcards named for the tournament include Josh Chua, World No. 33 Zeng Jian, Ser Lin Qian, Tan Zhao Yun and Loy Ming Ying, while Clarence Chew and Chloe Lai began in the qualification rounds. Zeng Jian's recent form was noted after 2025 wins over Mima Ito and Satsuki Odo, even as she lost her SEA Games women’s singles crown. Men’s doubles pair Koen Pang and Izaac Quek arrive as Singapore’s top doubles hope, listed as world No. 4 after back-to-back SEA Games golds in 2023 and 2025 and a silver at the 2024 Asian championships.

Qualifying-day coverage highlighted more than the Lai upset. Vladimir Sidorenko "seals stylish win with epic rallies" in his opener, and Adina Diaconu "edges thriller vs Pesotska" as the qualification draw produced tight contests and momentum swings ahead of the main draw. The release of the draws formalised matchups across five categories - men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles - with seeded names to be slotted into the published brackets.
Festival programming runs alongside competition. Promoter copy invites fans to "Enjoy complimentary access to all Qualifying Draw matches!" and promotes WTT All Stars Open Training, Smash Park activities, live performances and interactive fan zones. A "Challenge a Pro" activation featuring Chloe Lai is scheduled at Sengkang Grand Mall on February 22. Ticketing windows were set earlier: a WTT presale ran from November 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM to November 20 at 11:59 PM, with general sale opening November 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM via Ticketek Singapore; hospitality packages include Infinity Lounge and Smash Lounge benefits and other named experience tiers.
With qualifying upsets already reshaping the early draw and world No. 1 Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha anchoring the field, Singapore Smash moves into its sessioned main-draw phase on February 22, offering ranking points and a key competitive test for players chasing Asian Games and Olympic seeding.
