Maharu Yoshimura delivered the week’s loudest men’s-side move, climbing 40 places to world No.44 after his run to the WTT Contender Taiyuan 2026 final. The surge put the Japanese veteran back in striking distance of the level he last reached in 2016, when he stood as high as world No.15.

Taiyuan supplied the pressure point for the rankings shake-up. The event ran from 7 April to 12 April at Taiyuan Binhe Sports Center in Taiyuan, China, with USD 100,000 in prize money, and it ended with Wen Ruibo beating Yoshimura 4-2 for the title. Yoshimura had already made a statement in the semifinal, where he defeated Tomislav Pucar 3-1 to book his place in the final.

Wen’s reward was just as significant. The Week 16 update lifted him to world No.11, a career-best mark that leaves him one place outside the men’s top 10. WTT listed him on 2,625 points in the update, and the jump underlined how firmly his rise has taken hold after his second WTT Series title of the season. With Wang Chuqin still No.1, followed by Truls Moregard, Hugo Calderano, Tomokazu Harimoto and Lin Shidong, Wen now sits directly behind the sport’s leading group and looks ready to press even higher.

The women’s side produced an even bigger numerical leap. Kotona Okada jumped 194 places to world No.151 after winning WTT Feeder Cappadocia II 2026 in Nevşehir, Türkiye. The event ran from 8 April to 11 April at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Sport Center and carried USD 30,000 in prize money. Okada’s title run included wins over Nina Mittelham and Yashaswini Ghorpade, turning a feeder event into one of the week’s most dramatic ranking swings.

The broader Week 16 list, last updated on 13 April 2026, also moved names such as Lin Yun-Ju, Miu Hirano, Csaba Andras, Zhu Ziyu and Li Tianyang. The International Table Tennis Federation’s rankings notes tied the changes to points from Taiyuan and Cappadocia II, along with additional regional and youth events, showing how quickly the 2026 race is already taking shape. In April, every deep run is already reshaping entry lists, and Yoshimura, Wen and Okada all used one week to change their season’s outlook.
