G’Ovany launches new chapter with soulful Angels Around You release
G’Ovany’s March 11 release “Angels Around You” opens a new album chapter, with listeners responding to its softness, emotion, and reassuring message.

G’Ovany has opened a fresh phase in his career with “Angels Around You,” a March 11 release on Rokwon Production that now stands as the first single from his forthcoming album due later in 2026. The track matters because it is not being positioned as a one-off drop. It is a preview of where the Jamaican artist is headed next, with melody, tenderness, and reflective writing at the center of the campaign.
What makes the release cut through is its source material. “Angels Around You” is a rendition inspired by Dr. Hook’s 1983 song “I’ll Put Angels Around You,” from the album Let Me Drink from Your Well. The original did not chart, but it did find ears in Jamaica through airplay on JBC FM and RJR 94FM, giving G’Ovany’s version a direct link to local listening history. That connection gives the single a built-in familiarity while still allowing him to shape it around his own voice and pace.

G’Ovany, whose real name is Roger Robinson, has said the song stayed with him from childhood and carried emotional weight over the years. He described it as “a very tender, comforting song,” one that speaks to protection and reassurance. That framing fits the response it has received since release, with listeners praising its softness, emotional depth, and heartfelt message. In a dancehall lane that often rewards toughness and volume, G’Ovany is making a different statement: he is leaning into music that invites reflection and repeat listens.
That approach also fits the longer arc of Robinson’s career. He is from Cassia Park in Kingston and began recording professionally around 2005, building experience through work with Robin Mabumba, Gibby Morrison, High Voltage, Rokwon Music Group, Fire House, and Pstreet Records. His background also runs through Calabar High School, The University of the West Indies at Mona, and CUNY in Brooklyn, New York, adding to the picture of an artist who has developed with intention rather than haste.
For reggae and dancehall followers tracking the next wave of releases, “Angels Around You” is a useful marker. It shows G’Ovany reaching for emotional depth, clear songwriting, and a wider album identity, while keeping one foot in the music history that first shaped him.
