Popcaan and Junior Reid Unite on Uplifting Anthem Born Fi Conquer
Popcaan taps Junior Reid's four-decade roots legacy on 'Born Fi Conquer,' streaming now; the dancehall star calls it "a full circle moment."

Popcaan has recruited Junior Reid, a singer who was recording professional singles at age 13 and charting in the UK before Popcaan was even in his teens, for "Born Fi Conquer," a new single produced by Joel Engineer and now streaming on all major platforms.
The track is built around the rallying refrain "Born fi win, born fi conquer" and carries a message of self-worth and perseverance. Kaboom Mag describes it as "a bold and uplifting anthem rooted in purpose and resilience," encouraging listeners to step fully into their potential and live out their purpose unapologetically.
It is the kind of pairing that makes immediate sense once you hear what each voice brings. Popcaan delivers the contemporary dancehall energy that has been his signature since his breakthrough 2012 single "Only Man She Want" peaked at No. 89 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Charts and earned a Busta Rhymes remix. Junior Reid supplies the gravitas of a four-decade career: the roots authority that comes from stepping into Black Uhuru as lead vocalist in 1985/1986 to replace Michael Rose, and from writing "One Blood," a 1989 anthem so embedded in global culture that Rolling Stone reported in 2013 that Vampire Weekend used its lyrics as the source for their acclaimed album title Modern Vampires of the City.
Popcaan, born Andrae Jay Sutherland in Saint Thomas, Jamaica, and raised in Portmore, addressed the collaboration directly: "Working with Junior Reid is a great honour for me. I have deep respect for the elders who paved the way and built this industry. Being able to create great music with them is a full circle moment."

That full circle is easy to trace. Popcaan entered the industry in 2007 through Vybz Kartel's Portmore Empire, with Kartel introducing him to both Reggae Sumfest and Sting. He subsequently built his own Unruly Entertainment brand and released his debut album "Where We Come From" on Mizpak Records in June 2014, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart and earning a MOBO nomination for Best Reggae Act. Junior Reid's trajectory ran in the opposite direction geographically but with equal ambition: born Delroy Reid in Kingston's Waterhouse district on June 6, 1963, he cut his debut single "Speak the Truth" at 13 for the late Hugh Mundell, released on Augustus Pablo's Rockers International label, and eventually landed UK chart hits with Coldcut ("Stop This Crazy Thing," No. 21 in 1988) and The Soup Dragons ("I'm Free," No. 5 in 1990). His crossover reach extended further in 2006 when The Game featured him on "It's Okay (One Blood)" and his voice appeared on the remix of Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot" alongside Baby Cham.
Production comes from Joel Engineer, Popcaan's nephew and a rising force in next-generation Jamaican production. His involvement alongside two established voices reinforces the track's intergenerational architecture, blending contemporary sonics with the kind of veteran vocal texture Junior Reid has been delivering since the Rockers International era.
With Songkick showing no confirmed Popcaan concert dates for 2026, "Born Fi Conquer" stands as his most prominent public-facing move of the year so far, positioning both artists for playlist rotation across reggae and dancehall markets and strengthening Popcaan's case for festival programmers who understand just how much weight the name Junior Reid still carries on a bill.
