Sharon Marley Debuts Island Single, Donates Streaming Revenue to Jamaica Relief

Three-time Grammy winner Sharon Marley dropped "Island" on March 6, pledging every streaming cent to hurricane relief families in Jamaica — a gesture as rooted in the music as the drum-and-bass rhythm driving the track itself.

Released through Gong Gyal Entertainment and distributed by Tuff Gong International, "Island" is a roots-reggae celebration of unity, womanhood, and love for Jamaica, with lyrics that take listeners swimming, sipping roots wine, and breathing in the pace of island life. Joining Sharon on the record are her sister Cedella Marley and Rica Newell, both former members of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. Their reunion brings a unmistakable multi-generational depth to the collaboration, weaving the Marley musical legacy directly into Sharon's solo voice. Sharon herself described the single simply on Instagram: "From Sharon: A love letter."

All streaming proceeds from "Island" will be donated to Humanity Ova Vanity (HOV), a Canadian-based, community-led organisation focused on emergency relief, housing stabilization, and long-term support in underserved and disaster-affected areas of Jamaica. HOV is currently driving the Petersfield Community Resilience Hub, a locally run project providing transitional housing, safe child spaces, and essential social and medical services for families displaced by Hurricane Melissa.

"Island" is the second single from Sharon's debut solo album Firebird, following "Steppah," which featured reggae legend Big Youth and channelled the heavy bass-and-drum groove of golden-era rub-a-dub dancehall. Firebird, produced by Leroy Romans, collects 11 tracks that fuse classic reggae rhythms, soulful storytelling, and the healing vibrations of 432 Hz. Sharon has described the album as a personal work celebrating resilience, empowerment, and transformation, one that honours the Marley legacy while staking out her own path as a solo artist.
