Vybz Kartel has been confirmed to headline the inaugural Talanta East Afrika Festival, organisers announced at a Nairobi press conference, with the regional tour scheduled for May 1 at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, May 2 at BK Arena in Kigali, and May 8 at Laureate Gardens in Nairobi. The festival, billed as a multi-city cultural showcase, names the Jamaican dancehall icon as its lead international act for the inaugural run.

"The announcement was made on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, during a press conference in Nairobi," organisers noted at the launch, a date reported by local outlets The-star and Standardmedia. Co-organiser Mayanja Jackson said the project "is structured as a sustainable cultural movement rather than a one-off event," and highlighted plans for ongoing cross-border programming.

Organisers confirmed several operational commitments: "100 per cent of the festival workforce in each country will be sourced locally," and the programme is aimed at younger audiences, with a stated target demographic of ages 18 to 35. They also said the festival "will leverage social media platforms ahead of the May tour" to drive promotion and ticketing outreach, and expect the initiative to "drive tourism, create local employment and stimulate fashion, food and nightlife sectors in each host city."

Beyond Kartel, the announcement named Kenyan musician Charisma among the East African artists expected to perform, with organisers saying more regional acts will be revealed ahead of the tour.
