AYANEO unveils KONKR Pocket Block, targets budget retro handhelds
AYANEO split its retro push in two: a $129.99 licensed arcade handheld and a still-secret vertical budget model aimed squarely at Miyoo and TrimUI buyers.

AYANEO used its May 21 Product Sharing Session to split its retro playbook in two: one handheld aimed at licensed, ready-to-play arcade fans, and another that tries to pull budget buyers away from the Miyoo Mini Plus and TrimUI Brick. The event, themed “New Products Debut · Classics Reborn · The Future Begins,” also featured CEO Arthur Zhang, but the real story for emulation fans was how sharply AYANEO is now segmenting its lower-cost lineup.
The more complete reveal was the Pocket AIR Mini x Arcade Home Limited Edition, an officially licensed collaboration with IGS and Arcade Home. AYANEO said it is the first device to feature the company’s self-developed emulator and comes preloaded with officially licensed IGS game content, including material from Knights of Valour, Oriental Legends, Dragon World, Demon Front and The Killing Blade. For players who want a handheld that boots straight into arcade history instead of another tinkering project, that is the cleaner pitch. The special edition keeps the Pocket AIR Mini’s red-and-gold styling, 4.2-inch 4:3 high-resolution LCD, Helio G90T chip, Hall-effect controls and 4500mAh battery. It also stays with the same memory and storage options, 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage, with pricing starting at $129.99.
That price matters because AYANEO has already tried to prove it can do entry-level without losing its hardware identity. The original Pocket AIR Mini, introduced in September 2025, was billed as the company’s first entry-level product and pushed a 1280x960 panel at 500 nits in a 4:3 layout meant to avoid stretching and black bars. The limited edition does not change the formula so much as sharpen the audience: arcade collectors, fans of officially licensed content, and anyone who wants a compact, tuned Android handheld with less setup and more instant gratification.

The KONKR Pocket Block is the more intriguing move for the broader retro market. AYANEO has not released full technical specifications yet, but it has confirmed the vertical form factor, DMG-style and Purple colorways, and the KONKR branding that it introduced in 2025 to make its handhelds more accessible. KONKR first surfaced with the Pocket FIT, a performance-focused Android machine built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 3 and a 6-inch 1080p 144Hz display. The Pocket Block points in a different direction: less raw horsepower theater, more pocketable, classic Game Boy-style appeal.

That distinction is the point. The Pocket AIR Mini x Arcade Home Limited Edition solves the “I want to play now” problem with licensed games and a known setup. The Pocket Block is aimed at the “I want something smaller, cheaper and better styled than the usual budget crowd” problem. AYANEO is not just entering the lower end of retro handhelds. It is trying to make the budget tier feel designed, not merely discounted.
