East Hampton adds youth tennis clinic for kindergarten and first graders

East Hampton put kindergarteners and first graders on the court with a 2026 Youth Park Clinics tennis session listed from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the town calendar. The grade-specific slot gave families a municipal, age-appropriate way to start tennis without jumping straight into private lessons or club programming.

The clinic sat inside East Hampton Town Recreation’s 2026 Spring Tennis Clinics at Amagansett Youth Park, which ran from May 11, 2026, to June 19, 2026. The spring document listed Grades K-1 at 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., alongside Grades 2, 3 and 4 in the same one-hour window, with all sessions set for the Tennis Courts at the Amagansett Youth Park on Abrahams Path.

That structure matters in a place where court time can be tight and the summer calendar fills quickly. A town-run clinic gives very young players a public first step into the sport, with instruction organized by grade rather than by advanced ability. For children still learning how to hold a racquet, track a ball and move around a court, that kind of setup is a better fit than a more competitive camp.

The town’s tennis materials show the youth clinics are part of a broader municipal framework, not a one-off program. East Hampton’s calendar also showed separate Youth Park Clinics listings for grades 4 and 5 and for grades 6 and up, creating a ladder that can carry children through several age groups within the town system.

East Hampton’s tennis information page adds another public piece of that network: the Springs tennis complex has three courts at the Springs Youth Association Building, 60 Old Stone Highway in East Hampton. Taken together with the Amagansett Youth Park sessions, the setup shows the town using multiple public sites for instruction and play.

Private options remain in the mix around town. East Hampton Tennis Club describes itself as a private cooperative tennis club established in 1969, and says non-members may join clinics or book a private lesson when space permits. East Hampton Indoor Tennis says it has been a premier tennis facility in the Hamptons since 1995. Future Stars Tennis Camp at East Hampton High School lists ages 6-12 with 2026 registration open for June 29 through August 21.

For the youngest players, though, the value of the K-1 clinic was simpler than any of those bigger names: a short, local introduction to tennis on town courts, with a path that starts before many camps even open their doors.
