Basemental released version 8.18.182 of its Drugs mod on April 1, and the update is substantial enough that players should do three things before touching their Mods folder: back up current saves, remove all existing Basemental files from the Basemental Drugs subfolder, and clear the game cache. The new regional behavior logic will alter how existing saves interpret economy and legalization data the moment they load.

The update organizes its additions under three named areas: "Changing World," "Legalization," and the new optional "Dustbound Fairies" package. Changing World introduces updated regional price fluctuations and adds a location called Ondarion to the mod's dynamic pricing system, meaning players whose households operate in that territory will see new street-level pill batch values on arrival. The Legalization section extends Ondarion into the mod's simulated policy events for both gambling and cannabis, deepening the economic simulation layer that legacy-story and multi-household players have been building narratives around for years.

Dustbound Fairies is the most unconventional addition. It is entirely optional and requires the Enchanted by Nature expansion to function, but installing the package significantly rewrites how fairy Sims interact with the drug system. Fairies can now absorb intoxicated emotions from nearby Sims, participate in an optional transformation quest, and become subject to the same addiction and behavioral mechanics that govern human gameplay. Players who want none of this simply leave the package out of their Mods folder; those who install it should expect fairy autonomy to behave differently around intoxicated Sims than it did before.

On the mood side, 8.18.182 explicitly adds four new scripted emotional states: Stoned, Drunk, Sedated, and Stimulated. These feed into the mod's existing behavioral systems, so expect visible changes in Sim autonomy and social interactions when any of the four are active. The update also corrects longstanding issues: Ayahuasca received targeted fixes, pill animations for Xanax and Adderall were updated, and payment handling on the in-game Dark Web interactions was corrected.

Before loading a save, check the status of other script-heavy mods in your folder. WickedWhims, MC Command Center, and UI Cheats Extension are the most common sources of script conflict following a major Basemental release, as all three operate in overlapping behavioral and UI layers. If any of those mods have not been updated to the current game patch, pull them from the folder temporarily and re-enable after their authors push compatibility updates.

Installation ships in two formats: a standard .zip and a .exe installer. Basemental flags the .exe as unsigned, which will trigger a Windows security warning, and recommends extracting manually if that is a concern. Files go into Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/Basemental Drugs/. The author's standing installation rule still applies: script mods must not be nested more than one subfolder deep, so do not place Basemental files into additional subfolders inside that directory.

The release carries the mod's standard disclaimer that Basemental "is in no way promoting, encouraging or glorifying the use of drugs in real life." For a mod with this level of mechanical depth, covering scripted economies, regional pricing, legal policy events, and now occult-intoxicant crossover, that framing is worth keeping in mind. Version 8.18.182 is not a small patch; it is an expansion of an already elaborate simulation system that continues to evolve well past what most Sims mods attempt.
