EA CEO and Entertainment President Tease Sims 4 Donation Features Using Moola Currency
Sims Community's April Fool's prank imagined Moola donation meters pausing your Live Mode, but the real Marketplace changes from EA leadership are worth taking just as seriously.

Back up your saves before the next patch drops. Disable all mods the moment an update installs, and check your mod authors' pages at Sims Community and The Sims Resource before re-enabling anything. That advice holds whether the news is a joke or not.
On April 1, 2026, Sims Community published a parody article imagining EA had added a Moola donation feature to The Sims 4, complete with an "Expiration Meter" inside Live Mode that would pause gameplay if players failed to send Moola to Electronic Arts within a set time window. The piece was labeled April Fool's from the start. It landed anyway, because the anxiety it skewered is real.
Moola is not a joke. EA and Maxis introduced the virtual currency on March 3, 2026, alongside the official announcement of The Sims 4 Marketplace. The Marketplace went live on PC and Mac on March 17, with console players to follow in the coming months. Moola is the only way to purchase Maker Packs from approved community creators and official Kits, which have now moved exclusively into the Marketplace. Players who already owned Kits before March 17 keep their libraries untouched; the shift affects new purchases only.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson and Entertainment President Laura Miele have described the Marketplace restructuring as part of "exciting changes" for The Sims 4, with the broader pivot away from traditional Expansion, Game, and Stuff Packs as standalone releases being the headline shift. Any future patch tied to expanding Marketplace functionality, including the console rollout, carries the same risk profile as a major game update for script mods and UI mods alike.

The Marketplace launch in March already claimed casualties on that front. Simmattically's Refreshed Main Menu mod required an update to version 3.1 specifically to suppress the Moola wallet display and Marketplace icons. Any mod touching the main menu, gallery filters, or the in-game economy UI needs a version check against the current patch before it goes back in your Mods folder.
The donation meter was a prank. The next patch that moves your Moola balance on screen will not be.
