The unnamed Sims insider who called The Sims 4 Marketplace a month before its launch has new claims about Project X, and the headline detail lands bluntly: it is not The Sims 5.

"It's a remake of The Sims 4 in the grand scheme of things. Give or take," the insider said. The driving rationale is practical rather than ambitious. "The only reason why Project X exists is to keep the Sims 4 going without having to have such a large back-catalogue to QA for. That's basically it. It's not being made because they want to make a new game, it's mostly happening out of necessity."

The tool allegedly making that possible is Stability AI. The insider claims EA entered an official partnership with Stability AI in October 2025, using it to upscale and port existing Sims 4 content onto next-generation platforms. The goal, per the insider, is to compress a standard 4 to 5 year Sims development cycle to under two years: "the reason why they're using Stability AI is to reduce the normal 4 – 5 development time of a Sims game into less than 2 years. So expect news soon. Good or bad."

What happened to the actual Sims 5 matters for context here. The insider says Project Rene's ideas were originally embedded in The Sims 5, and those ideas were stripped out when the studio scrapped the sequel entirely. "The Sims 5 from what I heard of it probably wouldn't have been too great, simply because many of the ideas for Project Rene were in it and they basically pulled those ideas from the Sims 5 when they scrapped it." That positions Project X not as a pivot toward something new, but as a consolidation of what already exists.

The announcement window currently rumored is late 2026 or early 2027, with the insider signaling movement before then.

The sharpest tension in this report is an AI contradiction. The Sims 4 Marketplace's latest release requires its own Makers to not use AI when developing Maker Sets, while the insider describes EA's internal use of Stability AI on Project X as a "non-negotiable" for developers. No official EA statement has addressed the gap between those two positions. Monetization concerns around Project X remain in circulation within the community, though specific details have not been confirmed.

For scale reference, InZOI recently pushed an update adding over 1,300 new items across its Character Creator and Build Mode, the kind of content volume AI-assisted pipelines can now deliver quickly. Whether Project X matches that density with upscaled Sims 4 content, or delivers something thinner, is the question the rumored announcement window will answer.
