Sims tests hotfix for Create a Sim and eyedropper bugs
The Sims is testing a small hotfix for broken Create a Sim, eyedropper, and controller scrolling issues, with creators and console players feeling it first.

Players running into a busted Create a Sim flow, a misfiring eyedropper tool, or stubborn controller scrolling finally got a direct answer from The Sims Direct: a small Base Game update is being tested for next week across all platforms. The fix list is aimed at the bugs that hit hardest for builders, CAS-heavy creators, and anyone navigating the game with a controller, making this the first real measure of how quickly EA can clean up after the May 12 patch fallout.
The hotfix comes after the May 12 Base Game update, which landed on PC as 1.124.54.1030, on Mac as 1.124.54.1230, and on console as Version 2.33. That update brought a new Create a Sim layering feature, a new Infant Playmat, more frequent automatic backup saves, and a long slate of other fixes. It was also the patch that appears to have exposed, or in some cases introduced, the fresh player-facing problems now getting attention.

EA had already set expectations for a heavy update cycle. Its May 5 Laundry List said the May 12 patch would include more than 150 fixes and new features, with work shaped by top EA Forums issues and added feedback from Discord and Reddit. EA also scheduled a Sims Discord dev Q&A for May 5 at 2 pm PT and a Twitch livestream for May 6 at 10 am PT to preview the coming changes, underscoring how much attention was packed into the spring patch run.
What makes the eyedropper bug especially frustrating is that it was not entirely new. An EA Forums report had already described the problem in earlier patch cycles, with players saying the eyedropper could select objects but would not actually apply them after an update. EA says the EA Forums are its primary source for troubleshooting and gathering information on player issues, and players can file bugs there and compare notes with other reports.
For now, the practical advice is simple: keep an eye on the upcoming Base Game hotfix, and use the EA Forums if the same CAS, eyedropper, or controller problems keep interrupting play. The speed of this response matters, because the last patch was supposed to add polish and ended up reminding Simmers how fragile a busy live game can be when the tools that power building and dressing stop behaving.
