Anonymous tip leads to arrest in 2019 Santa Ana killing of Adrian Real

An anonymous tip finally pushed the 2019 killing of Adrian Real out of the cold-case file and into an arrest, giving Santa Ana police a new break in the death of the 20-year-old Los Amigos High School graduate and his family’s dog.

Police said a suspect was taken into custody on April 21 after years of unsolved work on the homicide. The name has not been released, and investigators are still sorting out motive and any relationship between the suspect and Real.

The killing unfolded in the early morning hours of November 22, 2019, when officers were called to the Waterstone Park Apartments on North Bristol Street after reports of gunfire. Real was found in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The violence did not stop there. Real’s family dog was also struck in the shooting and later died at a veterinary hospital, a detail that has made the case especially painful for the victim’s relatives and more haunting for anyone tracking the long road of the investigation.
