Bradenton teen found dead outside home, suspect arrested in shooting

Demetrius Lightfoot Jr. was weeks from walking across the stage at Manatee High School when Bradenton police found the 17-year-old dead outside a home in the 700 block of 12th Avenue West. The abrupt loss turned what should have been a graduation week into a homicide investigation, with classmates and teachers left confronting the violence just as Lightfoot’s senior year was supposed to end.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at about 10:15 p.m. on May 18. When they arrived, they found Lightfoot outside the residence. Investigators also moved quickly to a suspect. Bradenton police said they located 16-year-old Santana Derion Davis and found probable cause to arrest him for manslaughter with a firearm. That contrast, a senior so close to a milestone and now the victim in a homicide case, is what gives the investigation its emotional weight.
