Decomposed Body Found Near Kalamassery, Suspected Bengaluru Man

Police recovered a decomposed body on November 30, 2025 in a forested area near the HMT premises in Kalamassery, Ernakulam, believed to be 59 year old Bengaluru native Suraj Lama. The case matters because it connects to a missing person inquiry involving a recently deported migrant with reported memory loss, and authorities have launched an unnatural death investigation with postmortem and DNA testing underway.

Investigators with a Special Investigation Team located human remains on November 30, 2025 in a wooded patch close to the HMT premises in Kalamassery, Ernakulam. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition when recovered, and police said personal effects found with the remains match the description of missing man 59 year old Suraj Lama of Bengaluru.

Lama had been deported from Kuwait and returned to Kochi on October 5 after reportedly suffering memory loss linked to methanol poisoning. He was admitted to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital and went missing on October 10. The area where the remains were recovered is the same vicinity where Lama was last seen on closed circuit television footage. That connection prompted the Special Investigation Team to treat the discovery as potentially linked to the earlier missing person inquiry.

Authorities registered a case of unnatural death and noted that postmortem examination and DNA testing will be used to confirm the deceased person’s identity. Police have asked Lama’s family to appear for formal identification once forensic results are available. At this stage investigators are examining the scene for evidence that could indicate cause and manner of death, and the probe remains active.

The case highlights community concerns about the welfare of returning migrants who may arrive with medical or cognitive conditions, and the need for clearer protocols to track vulnerable persons through hospitals and community services. Families of people who recently returned from abroad should keep close contact with hospitals and local police when memory loss or disorientation is involved. If you have relevant information about the disappearance or the area where the body was recovered, contact the Kalamassery police station so investigators can follow up and expedite identification and any criminal inquiry.
