Philadelphia ambush kills Imani Ringgold, police identify two suspects
Police say Imani Ringgold was caught in a West Philadelphia ambush, and two suspects, Mustafa King and Zaire Manning, have now been identified.

Police say 20-year-old Imani Ringgold was killed in a carefully coordinated ambush at 60th and Market streets in West Philadelphia, and investigators have now identified two of the four suspects wanted in the attack. Ringgold had just bought a pizza and was walking to her job as a home healthcare aide when three armed men jumped out of a dark-colored Mazda SUV and opened fire.
The shooting unfolded around 6:20 p.m. on the 5900 block of Market Street, where Ringgold was struck in the face, upper torso, hip and leg. Two other people, a 24-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, were also hit but survived. Investigators said all three victims were innocent bystanders, and Ringgold was likely mistaken for someone else the gunmen were targeting.
Surveillance video captured the violence in sharp detail. Police said three people got out of the SUV and began firing, with the front-seat passenger running onto the sidewalk and shooting Ringgold at close range. At least 27 spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, a sign of how much gunfire tore through the block in seconds.
By April 10, detectives had identified two suspects as 26-year-old Mustafa King and 21-year-old Zaire Manning. Two other suspects remained unidentified, and the shooters were said to have abandoned the Mazda SUV on Sansom Street before fleeing in another vehicle that is still being sought. The Philadelphia Police Department has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, and the U.S. Marshals Service added a $5,000 reward tied to Manning’s capture.
Ringgold’s family said the killing was especially devastating because her grandmother heard the gunfire over the phone. Family members said Ringgold had started the home healthcare job only about two weeks earlier, had recently been accepted to community college, and planned to study HVAC. Her death came as Philadelphia was already facing a grim stretch of violence, with city officials reporting 29 homicides in 2026 as of April 6 and the city’s gun-violence dashboard showing 100 nonfatal and 19 fatal shooting victims by that date.
